Hello there!

Just a quick hello from me... I'm new to the forum, and only purchased Space Empires 4 Gold Last week... have to admit it was worth every penny so far too

Seems a shame it's not "in the shops" here in the UK, because it would knock MOO3 for 6! I ended up purchasing from the distributor for the UK... kind of expensive, but never mind

Anyway, only got a few more hours left and then I'm off home to play some more... woohoo! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Welcome. You've found the right place for help, learning, leisure... and nonsense. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Greetings yourself.

I am almost a MoO3 refugee myself. When the game came out I snapped it up. Dissapointed, but still possessed by the 4X bug, I returned to SE IV and all that it has to offer.

I'm sure it'll keep you busy for a heap of time. Enjoy

When you decide to get into playing mods for SE4 (and trust me, you will), go to www.malfador.com/se4mods.html (http://www.malfador.com/se4mods.html) for a large listing of mods.

Fyron, are the AST, Crossover and Star Wars II mods in that list ? I didn't see them but I can be obtuse sometimes.

AST and Sci-fi Xover are. Is Star Wars Mod II anything more than just an idea at this point? It can be added if I have a Version (alpha or beta will suffice http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) and a description.

Greetings, and welcome. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Ya I agree Shrapnel should sell the game in stores like Software Etc, or Electronics Boutique.

Here you go. (http://se4kdy.cyberwars.com/files/sci-fi-cross/index.htm)

Cross-over is halted for now. I think Andres took it off-line and replaced it with SW II.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Welcome to SEIV. Since i'm in Belgium i also bought the game (well both, the original and the gold edition) from an English distributor. Expensive, yes, but worth every penny.

Welcome DarkPaladin.
Don't fall for any of their 'cartoon humor'.
I'm not surprised that no-one got the Cricket reference since most people here are 'bloody yanks' http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif or canadians and have never heard of Cricket, let alone played it. Mind you, I don't think the English know how to play cricket either... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Thanks for all the greetings, I feel welcome already http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I've been "lurking" for about a week and just thought it only polite to step out of the shadows long enough to say hi http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

By pure chance I read about SEIV on the MOO3 site, investigated the web site, along with Galactic Civilizations as that was mentioned too, and ended up trying both demo's. After the first sleepless weekend, I knew I was in love with SEIV Gold!

But then came the shock, trying to buy the game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif It really is a great game, the best of it's kind in fact! (and I was, and still am really, a big MOO2 fan) I was going to buy from the US, but by the time I'd worked out the shipping costs etc, I might as well buy from the distributors here in the UK... £41.50, which is what... $62.25? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif Still, it was worth it and I don't care! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

*lifts placard up and starts to march up and down outside Shrapnel Games Interstellar HQ*

"What do we want? SEIV in EB! When do we want it? NOW!!!"

The people at Shrapnel have looked into the retail option several times, and each time decided not to do it. It usually ends up that the price of the games stays the same or goes up, and the return for Shrapnel and the developers is reduced significantly. The employees probably wouldn't hesitate saying "Retail screws developers", since it does. So about the only store you might see SEIV in is a used-game store. Now I said *MIGHT*, it still isn't likely http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

It's simple. The reason so many games suck are are rushed is because of mainstream retail. Mainstream retail is destroying strategy and wargaming for the PC as we know it.

However, do expect to see our games at hobby shops near you in the future.

EB sucks BTW.

OK, I'll admit my ignorance.

What the blazes is 'EB'?

Electronics Boutique.

Will
June 28th, 2003, 04:08 AM
Electronics Boutique, a store pretty much completely devoted to video games (I've seen one that also stocked a few video cards... I mentioned it to my dad, and the sales guy overheard and said "WHOA!! I thought that was just a cool game..." He was serious.)

I haven't bought anything there becasue... well, I haven't bought that many games, period.

Duh...

that's right, he can be taught!

In fact, I know of an Electronics Boutique in my area, now that I think of it. Can't recall if I ever bought a game there though. The smaller-sized computer game retailers all look alike to me.
