Hi USA Players,
The genesis of this thread was the request of a team of Lithuanian players looking for a team game against another country. All other tangents (worthy as they be) aside, that is still the only objective.
Unless someone else wants the job, I will act as the single point of contact (not leader!) for the USA team. Thanks in advance for your patience and good sportsmanship.
Gryphin has agreed to be the GM for this game (Thank you Gryphin!)
Per the Lithuanians’ request, the game settings stand as follows:
Max Players: 12 (6 versus 6)
Turn duration: 36 hours
Turn automation: After Last player upload only (at least for the summer)
SE4 Version: Stock v1.84 (Gold Patch 3)
Starting resources: 20000
Starting planets: 3
Home planet value: Good
Score display: Allied
Technology level: Low
Racial points: 3000
Quadrant type: Mid-Life
Quadrant size: Large
Event frequency: None
Event severity: N/A
Technology cost: Medium
Victory conditions: Last Alliance Standing
Maximum units: 5000
Maximum ships: 5000
Computer players: None
Computer difficulty: N/A
Computer player bonus: N/A
Neutral empires: None
All other settings are game defaults.
Pablo has stated “Here we wanted to try a team only game where the team chooses one person for diplomacy, one for research management, one for defences etc.”
We do not have to follow this play convention/philosophy – it is simply how the Lithuanians plan to approach the game from their end.
If everyone is still interested, I will contact Pablo and Gryphin to get the game set up. Please post your acknowledgements in this thread, as it is our only common ground at this time.
Gandalph, I have asked the Lithuanian team if they want to expand the game to 7 players per team.
Thanks!

Once in-game, there's always diplomatic Messages. Prior to that, unless someone has a better suggestion, there's always email.<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">IMO, the in-game diplomatic messaging system is awkward and frustrating to use effectively - especially for team play. I really would like the team to commit to email-only communication or an Online web forum.

With seven of us, as long as each of the major racial techs gets picked by someone, and we spread out the planet types pretty evenly, we should be alright. But the nuts and bolts of this is best hashed out where prying Baltic eyes cannot see it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Methane

Home Planet Types (3)
Ice

Gas Giant
Racial Traits Tech Areas (5)

The other thread got hijacked by the "SEIV Olympics" crowd for awhile. In reality, Pablo simply wanted another team to play against. I started this thread to recruit a USA team outside of the "noise" the Olympians where generating on the other thread. My goal was to meet Pablo's actual request - a team composed of a players from one other country (USA) to play a team vs. team game against Pablo's team (Lithuanians).
Pablo's thread has now returned to that original intent. Gryphin, Pablo, and I are now using it to set the game up.
After recruiting the required number of USA players, this thread became the USA team's thread for intra-team communications.
So, yes, they (the 2 threads) are the same game at this time, but one is basically the game admin thread (admin + each team's contact person) and this thread is for the USA team.
Personally, the whole process has given me head pains - like herding cats. I hope it is all worth it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Seriously, we can do one of several things, as has already been noted.
1) Continue to pare down the ranks on both sides until we have two even teams of people who we know will see the war through.
2) Have some Americans "double-up" on empires until new recruits show up.

Loser, PM me the name of the system which puzzles you.
For a map of this setting, the worse start I saw was Murden in PBW total annihilation. His only homesystem had a random system wide move 1 each turn. He was a newbye, and he discovered that it applied also to units.
So each turn he looked sadly at his mines drifting away, as were later a few sats and a cripled warship of him.
Last : defensive players will go to hell.
EDIT : ok, I loaded the map into the mapeditor and pinpointed the location of one of your homeworld with the player order. I feel sorry for you (trying not to laught). But you'll have to live with it. In fact it could be worse : think about Geoshmo in Return to Orion with his only homeworld located in a shieldless system, and with an agressive alien just 1 system away using...organic armors.
I am really sorry, but your situation really gave me a good laught.....

Sure..by guilding I mean permanent teams who play together or against each other all the time. Or is the community basically a guild by itself in size? I thought I saw something that was like a "Galactic Sized" map (meaning like 100 generated maps with front lines etc), that must have many players playing at same time.
Also...can anyone tell me what are the most "essential" mods? Shipsets? I see Atrocities (for instance) has a Phuckload of Sheeyat out there...I just want to know which ones I should grab first...what ones most players would consider the "best"...are some good for AI only while others better for graphics...etc..
Thanks for anyone taking time to answer this.

Ok, the game is running fine except the master password I put do not match the Master password Griphin put for the game in PBW. So until a PBW admin update it, I'll process the turns manually. Doing that, there was 2 things I noticed :
gamekid90 : you messed up , your turn was for turn 1 , this is turn 2.
nirtus : your file seems to be from a different executable than this game. Please patch your game to 1.84 ASAP.

I gather that in the early days of SEIV there were a lot of "teams"/alliances out there (you can still find several websites for them in the SEIV website thread (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=009547)), but I don't know how active they still are.

It's major change is making the AI's a heck of a lot tougher. It also includes some new races and shipsets.
Fyron's Quadrant Mods (http://galileo.spaceports.com/~kazharii/fqm/index.html) also get used a lot. New graphics, and more hostile terrain (prepare to see your smaller scout ships get eaten by damaging warp points... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif ) Fyron also has a Ultimate Strategies (http://galileo.spaceports.com/~kazharii/usm/index.html) mod that vastly increases the default combat options for ships and fleets.
The biggest mod project going on right now is Atrocities' Star Trek Mod (http://www.astmod.com/startrek/stm.htm) (now at iteration 1.25a I think), using his Star Trek races and all new tech trees for them.
As for shipsets, it's simply a matter of personal taste. Atrocities (aka the One-Man Shipset Design Bureau) has by far the largest number of, and highest quality, shipsets available. At Kuat Drive Yards (http://galileo.spaceports.com/~seivkuat/), you'll be able to see and use Andres' excellent Star Wars shipsets (including the Space Dragons, aka "The Terrors of Lithuania" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif ). Be sure to check out the (once fully, now almost) complete shipset list at State of the Art Spaceyards (http://sotas.clan.st/) for all the shipsets available.

Anyway, we're working on it.

Players,
The game is still on hold as a USA player is missing in their team.
Do you still want to wait for a replacement ? Do you want to play anyway on full auto turns ?
I will be fine whatever choice you do, but you indeed have to decide on your line of action first.
SO TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO DO !

what about one USA player takes over the missing empire until the replacement is found?

I Vote Replacement - Auto turns until one is found.
We also need to have team captains, people who can make this call for the game admin in the event such a call is needed.
I fear the USA team is going to have an up hill battle in this challenge. My starting locations were utterly hopeless. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

For some reason I cannot edit my previous post (time elapsed) so this will be a double.
I believe that leaving the game on auto turns would be unfair regarding the USA team as we all know the smart AI decisions but this is for them to decide. What we all want is the game rolling. Hey USA, wake up and make your point http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

As the PBW will be down for quite some time I believe the USA team will have time to search and find a replacement player. If not, we suggest running the game on auto. One of the USA players may play for 2 empires (at least until the replacement is found), that is ok with us.

The situation as I understand it: everybody is tired of waiting but LT players are very eager to play this game and USA players say nah, ok, if you want so much we can hit the end turn button. And the replacement player is nobody's problem. Who cares? If you want - find one, we don't mind. We will accept him into our team. You wanted a team based game? Well, who cares! You can play as a team and we play as we wish.
Sorry guys for the long rant. I didn't mean to insult or offend anybody but this is how the situation looks from our side. And please, react!

The only unattended empire I see at the moment is jfpOne23's New Venice. We should be allowed to log into, and surrender, that empire to a USA player that is still playing. Having the AI as a teammate is as good as them having a spy in our midst. Very unpredictable and no cooperation.

I am pretty sure that timed turn processing on PBW is still disabled (or buggered? I don't really know why, just that it only auto processes after all .plr files are in, not after the time limit).

I've tried pulling friends into this game. I have a spare copy of Gold that I lend them until they get tired of it (I'd let them keep it if any of them ever wanted to, ever got stuck on the game). But everyone I know loses interest in it reletivly swiftly. It is a niche game.
Seriously, how far down is the U.S.A. side? I'm not taking you six on alone without a new rule banning Intel.
