I too generally just hit "R" as well - unless I know the whole platoon has been say under bombardment in which case I might choose the platoon leader and rally him first if pinned and he is soft as...

If you want to rally your platoon leader first, then you select that particular unit and hit "R" of course.

Auto-rallying is only done at the end of the turn by the AI - so turning it off does not affect your voluntary rallying. I've never turned auto-rally off, its something the original SSI developers...

Basically what Don says - nothing like that has been reported in the life of the Windows version of the game.
Try dowloading the free version of MBT - see if your computer plays that one's sound....

Why not do what I do - simply turn the sound off?
The game is not a flight simulator, where the noises are useful things like an RWR lock-on warning, or a "Pull up!" announcement from the computer...
