Yes.

When I used by default display it would completely reboot the machine.
When I selected the radeon driver it windowed the game, but it was very slow and choppy (frame rate below 5fps).

The range check error comes and goes at very odd times. If I encounter it I reload and just wait until the fighting is over.. that usually gets me around it.

I updated my own drives (Radeon 7500) and when I tried to launch it rebooted my machine.

I went into setup and reset my display settings - and now the game runs...

I think I fixed it. I shortened the ranges on one weapon I found that had a range over 400, and now the error seems to have gone away.

Well, IMO, there's only two likely classes that I've find agreeably usable:

Destroyer (the ship you start with)
Cruiser (the next hull class up)

Anything larger than that gets too...

I uninstalled, wiped the entire directory, dug through the registry and yanked out all referances to SF, Malfador, et al, reinstalled, patched... and starting a new game using the unmodded missions...
