Down side to ship computers

Is there a down side to having a ship controled by computers. You can get away with spending only 20k in mass when even the smallest crewed ship requires 30k.

Ship Engines/Size

The mass of an engine is 10k for all ship sizes. I think that this should be adjusted.

Is there any way to see how much supply a ship has during combat? It would help to know so that I could operate my ships in a matter that would leave me enough supply to get back to a supply depot.

Yes the ship had 6 engines. Since the ship had zero supply, I could not move the ship off the planet in order to move back over supply depot. The ship was a standard destroyer warship at tech 3 or 4...
