I think the crystalline armour being mod'd into the impeller driven sidewalls would make sense. The degradation would be slow at first, then rally oick up as on or more impellers went down. I don;t...

Apart from the engine disruptors, i went through a cloud which also slowed me. I don't know if i was near the edge, or if certain nebulae do that, but i have had it happen.
