I think some some nations, ie, LA Ermor are worse than the others, but all the rest are merely bad.

The time spent forging, distributing forged items, ritual casting, recuiting, adjusting battle...

I never tried it without a path. I figured you tried that, but one can never tell. What might work is a 1% path chance using #custommagic <path> AND <1>. Doesn't completely eliminate the path...

I assume you want to make a unit with research only. The command would be #research bonus < value>. The value will be the research bonus.

Two level one priest/mages for each nation: 1 with a single 100% random elemental and 1 with a single 100% random in sorcery. Gives all nations a shot at non-national paths, but doesn't make it easy.

I like to put the Sickle whose crop is pain on four armed types with every quickness item I can forge. Generates 20 to 30 death gems every battle. Of course you have to remember to transfer them...

That sure sounds like workable solution.

I am not thinking of assigning a high gold cost because I am thinking that it would only be used in a specific province, thus not justifying high upkeep...
