Re: Lethality of SAMs

Thanks to Narwan and Marcello. I understand that many of the SAMs are airburst devices, but I was under the impression that Stinger types were direct hits by IR tracking. I have a mental image of a...

Lethality of SAMs

How lethal are SAMs in real life? I am working on some battles to learn about TOEs of various countries, and it seems that almost every plane or helo needs to be smacked by 3-4...

Re: Swamps and Streams

I tried a practice scenario with swamps, mud, and streams.
I had some fords, but did not know how they got there on the terrain generation of the map I made. I made a company each of T-55s, T-72s,...

Re: Swamps and Streams

Don,

Thanks. I did not think of making a practice 'game' to test it out. Are there vehicle issues anyway?
Does size matter (thinking lbs/sq ft of tread type stuff)?, amphib capability? Is a...

Swamps and Streams

What is the probability of a tank becoming immobilized in a swamp? What is it in a stream? Are there any unit parameters that change that probability, such as "amphib" capable? Size?

I am...

Re: AI has it gotten any smarter??

I think it is better. Smarter is a hard word to use as to me that requires 'learning'. Until Neural Network systems are part of the AI (big task and wishlist item!) it probably cannot be trained. ...

Where did my smoke go?

Sorry if this has been covered in a question earlier, but I could not find it.

Where have my units smoke ammo disappeared to in my campaign. My StG-III's and IV-e's "x"-0 units do not have smoke...

Interesting minor allies

I am still slogging through my long campaign, now May 42 in NA vs. the Brits. I am curious as to comments from those experienced about minor ally choices for some auxilliary units. I have found...

Andy,

Thanks - I had seen that thread, that is why I have a 17cm in my core. I also have a 21cm hvy art in my core (why - it seemed like fun at the beginning...

Re: What to do?

To Don,

I do understand C'est le Guerre I guess. I wish I had the save, just to see the rest of the deployment. I do enjoy the AI - it is the best so far of the SP1,SP2,SP3,SPWaW, and WinSPMBT...

What to do?

Question to the collective. I had a recent battle in my German 1941 long campaign (core around 5K now) where in a meeting engagement the Brits has 8(eight) troops of OB 25 pounders and 4(four)...

Re: Role of the SPW251/2 Gw?

Nox,

Thanks for your answer. Now I know the history on the SdKfz-251/2-GW (sorry for the earlier wrong label.)

I still like using it as a direct fire 'smoker'...

Role of the SPW251/2 Gw?

Can someone tell me how the Germans used the SPW251/2 Gw 81mm Mortar halftrack? Was it used as mobile indirect fire mortar platform?
Pluses in the game:
Mobile, good ammo load out, can 'roll'...

Re: Why are my mortars hiding from the FO?

Thanks to Don and Captain Insano.

I did not check on radio contact, explaining my seeing different mortars in dufferent turns. My two 88's have had two turns of Fire before I ran them back (One...

Why are my mortars hiding from the FO?

To any one that can answer this. In the saved game, I have many 81mm mortars that are not listed to be available to bombard. They not suppressed, and have ammo.

Any idea why thay are not on the...

Re: German Armor vs. French Armor 5/40 issue

Take care of your 88's. I now move them most times after one turn of firing - they can't kill much with all the moving, but I get them out of the way before the artillery comes. Thankfully, the AI...

Re: long campaign unplayable

I have learned to keep my Storch's away from the backfield until I have suppressed the AA. They are still useful for looking at the front. AA seems to not fire on them much over 700 yards or so...

Re: long campaign unplayable

I'll fire a few of my observations from my current Germany 1941 start long campaign:

1: Try spotter planes, and scouts. Look for smoke collections later. Advance key front units one hex at a...

Re: Spotters - One more from an old WinSPmbt playe

I use the entrance and exits extensively. I also do not overfly them into the heart of the enemy, using them to see the front mainly at first. They have been scorched when that corner point of the...

Re: AI behavior and OOBs

Don,

Thanks. I saw that answer earlier in past threads. I am glad to hear there is some variability. I also was not aware of the rarity of the T34 in early 41.

I am playing this campaign...

AI behavior and OOBs

How does the AI "buy" in a campaign? Is it fairly predictable given a battle date, nationality and inf vs armor heavy toggle? Can it vary from game to game if the prior variables are the same?
