Re: US Sniper rifle???

The rifle they use doesnt make much odds. Theyre still Supermen. Extremely difficult to kill by infantry at more than 50 metres and they'll take even veteran troops with them before they finally go...

Re: Unkillable aircraft!!!

I havent stuck a oar in for a while. Aircraft are definitely not unkillable but you need to put flak in your core and gain experience with it then you'll catch some of them. I've rarely seen a tank...

Re: Terrain types

Yeah, agreed. Vehicles may get slowed down in woods and risk throwing a track thru the rough stuff, but "Serious Trees" should really make it impossible, so a 2 tier woods type is a great idea. I...

Re: Battle 8 turn 13 to 55

Just an idea, and you probably tried something like it already so excuse me if this is old hat, but what happens if you drop smoke on them so they can't all return op fire at you? - ideally so you...

Re: what to put in the core

In German campaign I put a couple of armoured carriers in the core (you can keep mortars and arty resupplied with a LOT of ammo). You then have fewer guns to manage but they fire more rounds and...

Re: Battle 8 turn 13 to 55

Brilliant AAR's - Anabaki-san, what a dude! :-) Hmmm, those Chinese hordes sound scary, (and I thought the Russian infantry waves were tough), but I think you have a good point about the map size,...

Re: Battle 8 turn 13 to 55

Agreed. AT guns lurking in the rear.. ouch. Bunched up groups of Flak guns seem to be the Russians favourite and will mince recon/m'cycle units trying to rampage around. Does the AI do that with...

Re: German nicknames

I dunno if it was a name the Germans or hapless American tankers gave the Sherman but I read somewhere it got the nickname of "Ronson" cos of the way it lit up after being hit. And somewhere else I...

Re: counteraty

I read somewhere else on here that 1.7cm would do the job. I must admit that I havent looked into all the ranges etc.. but I got one 22cm battery and that flashes up that its doing counterbattery...

Re: Tactics and Correct use of Scouts ?

The LOS/spotting thing will run n run http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I cant really figure what sort of cover trees give you (not a great deal from what I can see), and Ive...

Re: Realism vs \"Winning\"

I must admit that when I played the old SP (Dos version) long campaign as Germans I had more Tigers by 1945 than Adolf probably did http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif - it was...

Re: Long Campaign - German - Abrevated AAR

Great battle reports, really entertaining tea break reading. The screen shots add too :-) hmmm, I'll have to have a crack at that. I'm doing a similar campaign too. As I was new to this version of SP...

Re: LOS and spotting

I didnt know they didnt have better spotting skills. Something learnt there then. I've been using them the same way - on extreme flanks and they can definitely save your bacon. I got a German...

Re: LOS and spotting

Interesting experiment and good points too (wish I had the time to have tried something like it). Scouts seem to be a Must Have item, (saved a lot of pain soemtimes, but I find it tricky keeping them...

Re: LOS and spotting

"Normally "discussions" about game systems tend to involve people who have never been in a tank, in combat."

Sorry, I dont realise that was the rules here - Keep your mouth shut about gameplay...

Re: LOS and spotting

Does that mean you can change the preferences then ? ;-)
Hey, I think a lot of the (subjective) comments on here are observations on how the game plays "out of the box, set to default". Isnt...

Re: LOS and spotting

I've never seen billiard flat "natural" fields either and absolutely agree that infantry and low profile weapons can be hidden/blended just about anywhere, those little furrows & burrows youre...

Re: Immortal Infantry - How raise HIT chance ?

OO I like this discussion :-) I've been trying the last few battles of a German long campaign with inf now on 70% toughness on both sides, cos I got so bored with hammering 200 man Russian infantry...

Re: LOS and spotting

ha ha .. yeah .. but I can still see you ;-) That only underlines the issue - it's a chocking huge area of featureless grassland with a single ten foot tall lump in the middle of it. I guess you...

Re: LOS and spotting

Yeah, it definitely pays to move slow and having some scouts in your core, (mind you, it's a challenge keeping them alive). With increased experience they spot more for you as a campaign goes on. ...

Re: Ex SPII player - observations so far

Yeah Dlazov I read your AAR - I could almost smell the cordite :-) It might be unfair to compare SPWW2 with SPII but when I had Tigers in that they clocked up a huge tally of kills on a Campaign &...

Re: sorry to Hijack this

A lot of useful tips on this thread. I've not played a game like this for a while & there's plenty to learn :-) Agreed the AI has this knack of parking units in frustrating places, but on the...

Re: LONG - Japanese - Aborted Long Campaign

Ha ha, well written and very witty. I've not tried a Far East campaign yet, but I think I'll do that much sooner after reading this.

Ex SPII player - observations so far

I've only just joined the forum and first of all would like to say what a great game SPWW2 is. A few years ago I had SPII and enjoyed many hours with that too and this has so much more in it - A...
