Re: Strategy Guide in the Archive

Thanks dubious ...

I will be updating the "face of the enemy" after action report during the week (when I get some time) - it does have plenty of late game detail and some discussion of hideous...

Face of the Enemy (an endgame clash of fleets)

Right Chaps, a while ago I promised a report of the outcome of the clash of fleets envisaged by my "face of the enemy" post and here are some initial thoughts. Despite the various PBEM woes involved...

Re: pbem hosting hell!

*happy news* - the hosting program managed to process the latest turn after more than 2.5 hours doing an impression of a crashed application (the dialogues had disappeared, the process counter had...

Re: pbem hosting hell!

btw ... i have mailed the game turn and player files involved to Aaron ... it's a nasty problem, particularly with a view to play-by-web automated hosting in the future;

How would the players...

Re: pbem hosting hell!

ho hum, similar problem with the next turn I tried to process, this time the hosting program pauses at 60% and remains there for a long long time. (1 hour and counting this time)

Shortly before...

Re: pbem hosting hell!

we have a sort of workaround so the game will be able to continue ... it involves one of the players not using fighters in the way he wanted to though

*looks like largescale fighter combat...

Re: pbem hosting hell!

like i said, the "not responding" thing is pretty common whil e processing my current game. At some stage in the process the completed percentage always waits a few minutes (presumably while combat...

Re: pbem hosting hell!

The task list in windows me does indeed show the program as not responding - but then, it shows that even when processing a turn which does later work. In this case I have tried selectively ignoring...

Re: pbem hosting hell!

.... well, the host program is still running ... 8 hours and counting - the computer still responds, the mouse moves, the hard-drive whirrs, but the message still shows 72% complete!

pbem hosting hell!

Hmmmm, epic pbem game conclusion, large fleet battles, thousands of fighters ...

Just how long could it take the hosting program to produce a set of turn files from a complex endgame battle across...

Re: Ultimate Ship Design

I'll post some details in a couple of days about the ship designs I chose to fight the base-ship horde in the "face of the enemy" thread. Basically, I had to design a baseships and dreadnaughts to...

Re: The Face of the Enemy (Destroy this Ship!)

Regarding;

"crystalline armour and massive guns" - the problem is that the armour doesn't pump the shields until it is damaged (assuming it survives the damage) and since the massive phased...

Re: The Face of the Enemy (Destroy this Ship!)

"engine destroyers/small hulls" - I can see the advantages - but i do wonder about their ability to avoid all hits in a target rich environment. Unfortunately my racial traits produce an additional...

The Face of the Enemy (Destroy this Ship!)

After all my refit woes, a more amusing puzzle; in the endgame of a pbem (turn 100+) my big rival has expanded massively and built a fleet of giant base ships to oppress the galaxy. His race is no...

Re: The Face of the Enemy (Destroy this Ship!)

"mines for planet...

Re: The Face of the Enemy (Destroy this Ship!)

Some good ideas and interesting points everyone;

1)choice of battlefields/choke points – not an option I fear, I already have 3 maximum range (500ly) renewable (ie. Onboard repair) warp point...

Re: The Face of the Enemy (Destroy this Ship!)

1) defence modifiers are a null issue with baseships really - yes the stealth armour stacks with ecm (as would scattering too) for a +75% bonus but compare that with the +65% attack bonues and the...

Re: The Face of the Enemy (Destroy this Ship!)

1) Nullspace cannons; in my experience they are very solid weapons in the mid game where a heavy mount can actually do serious damage against a lean cruiser design. 3 turn reloads are not a problem...

Re: PBEM refit issues - any answers?

'fraid not, batch of 5, batch of ten - still no joy... my only reasonable course of action is to split the fleet amongst existing starbases in other sectors but it is micromanagement hell.

I just...
