Default Tet on the Delta

NOT HERE! NOT NOW!

Back to Nam, a new one for those enjoy SPMBT. This scenario deals with the Tet offensive on the soutern tip of Vietnam.

It is a real melee! You are going to be one busy commander!

Riverine, a little armor, artillery, air support, Seawolr navy Huey attack helicopters and a LOT of VC coming from everywhere as they were so prone to do.

This one required many, many hours of testing and I'll look forward to hearing of your experiences in "The Nam."

I kept waiting for a Mike Force or Puff to show up. That did not happen so it ended in a draw at turn 18. They just kept popping up all over. A couple M48 would have been nice or a Vulcan or Duster.

Keep it coming, WB.

That would have been nice! Unfortunately, it didn't happen. A draw the first go around is okay. Did you save the ARVN general or leave him to his fate?

Westmoreland wants to see you at MACV as soon as they chase the VC and NVA outta there. Wonder why?

I'll keep one comin, Trip. GOt a neat one on the way. Get ready!

The general was hustled aboard the supply ship which then lurked at the bottom of the map since I could not exit that way. On the last turn, a lucky shot from a VC AT took out the ship---they had not been fired on or even moved for at least three turns. Teach me to stay in one place while a war is going on.

Would you call that a sittling target...or a floating target? The VC take their time...then when they are ready...BOOM! Charlie is devilishly tricky that way!

Thanks, Trip. Good reports

Great scenario Wild Bill.
Nice to see someone make a complex and tense scenario on a small map, rather than the huge ones where it takes me five minutes just to find where my forces are. Also liked mix of forces.
So many Vietnam scenarios for SPMBT have too much armour for my liking. Good to see someone gaming the smaller and more typical engagements rather than just the big set pieces. Helps to remind us that SPMBT isn't just about Nato v Warpac armoured punch ups.

Thanks Bernard. You are right, of course. While we all love armor, this game is primarily an infantry fight, with armor, as it should be a support corrolary to the heart of the fight.

Armor, artillery and air will not make the final difference, the Grunt will.

Sorry Bernard, I'll get off my soapbox. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the scenario. The next one is a little different too, something I think you'll enjoy as well.

Thanks for the tips WBW, though I hoped to keep that thread a pure AAR (No Spoilers) one!

I was probably just unlucky with the airstrike (I notice I called it COIN wheras 'Sandy' was actually "Fighter-Bomber" flavour). I've since replayed my moves and have never had the unfortunate "Blue on Blue" occur. Still, airstrikes can go wayward (especially COIN- that's probably why I damned it as such!).

A solid, advancing line just forward of the MACV HQ (with a 'refused' left flank to cover the uncertainties of the ARVN camp) got me a DV - though I always consider the second bite at the cherry to be a cheat, it doesn't happen in real life! (The General and his dancing SEALS also survived)

General Westmoreland can contact me at:

Cell 301(B)
'Hanoi Hilton'

Postal facilities may be available through the Red Cross, though I would prefer to deliver any message in person!

Oops, sorry. I took care of that leak on the AAR page. Loose lips sink ships! My apologies, my friend.

A DV, eh? Not bad. You're gonna be a hell raiser at the Hilton!

Good job...WB
