Default Siege question

Let's say an enemy is besieging my castle, and has breached the walls. If I move troops in from another territory, and at the same time he orders his besieging troops to storm the castle, what happens? Do the troops I moved in from another territory help defend the castle from the storming enemy? Or do my troops moved in from another territory first fight a battle outside the castle, and then there's a second battle against my troops inside the castle when he storms the castle?

if it's the latter, i suppose the only way to join forces is to order my troops inside the castle to break the siege? then they will join with the troops i move into the territory from elsewhere, right?

The answer to this can be found by looking at the Turn Resolution Sequence on page 71 of your manual.

What happens is that Movement Battles are resolved before Seige Battles. So, yes a battle will take place in that province before the seige occurs. If you order your men inside to Break Seige, then they will join with your relief force and fight. If you dont, then they will remain inside the fort while the battle plays out.

You lose the benefit of the castle wall if you break siege to join the other army. Choices, choices...

so essentially the only way i get the inside castle force to join with the guys from elsewhere is to fight outside the castle. well, that's good to know, worst case would be i move the guys in from elsewhere and then get clobbered in two battles.

One of the things that isn't obvious that took me a long time to figure out. Say you have two forces, force A and force B. Together they can defeat the enemies' main army, force C. Apart, either one of them is going to be slaughtered.

Assuming that enemy force C is sieging your force A inside of a castle. As long as you have at least one nearby friendly province to retreat to, it's entirely possible to simply script your entire army to retreat from the castle once they've been attacked. This allows you to gather up your force B and A even though one of them got pinned inside of a castle.

Default Magical movement...

Magical movement -- gateway, for instance; teleport-type spells for solo mages -- lands you with the garrison.

Really? I thought only gateway landed people on the garrison.

gateway and teleport-type spells lands the caster inside the castle if you are the owner of the castle.

I feel I should point out that the manual is entirely incorrect when it states those trying to break the siege from inside the fort die if they retreat. They may retreat unharmed as usual, if an adjacent province is available.

This makes trapping armies inside forts impossible, I believe.

At least this has been my experience.

Are you positive about that Sombre. I was pretty sure that the only way to get out of a castle safely was to retreat from a storm attempt, not a break seige attempt.
