Default Message Delay

I need a little tweaking advice.

Vehicle speed is perfect, but the message delay is running just a bit too fast. I barely get to read many of the messages and the PBEM load disparity flashes in a microsecond, not long enough for me to read it.

I have adjusted the preferences to max delay.

I have a 2.6 Ghz Pent4, with a gig of RAM and a 256MB graphics card running XP Prof.

Did I miss something in the manual, or is my only option to use a utility like SloMo?

Second issue/opportunity for improvement?

It seems that we get messages on the bottom bar telling us what unit is firing and the range.

Then we get a message on the top bar telling us what actual weapon is firing and the hit %.

Then we get a message on the bottom bar again telling us that the weapon hit/where hit/penetration and casualties.

So to follow the action, I have to look from bottom bar to top bar and back to bottom again while reading very quickly, and while also trying to watch what's happening on the main screen/map.

My problem should be solved by slowing the messages. But would it make sense to move the top bar next to the bottom, or the bottom to the top, or to just put all the messages on one bar? Perhaps these are deep coded issues that are hard to change, but maybe not.

Thanks for listening :-)
This is the best wargame ever made.
Cheers,
Cross

Hi Cross,

I had the same problem and found this 'tweak' which helps.

If you go into the directory

C:\Program Files\ShrapnelGames\The Camo Workshop\WinSPWWII\Game Data

You will find a file called Camogame.ini

Open this in notepad and go these lines

; Adjust message delay length by this amount of milliseconds (- deduct, + add)
; Basic message delays for the settings are
; 0=250 Milliseconds (1/4 second)
; 1=500 Milliseconds
; 2=750 Milliseconds
; 3=1000 Milliseconds
; 4=1250 Milliseconds
; Minimum delay is 20 Milliseconds, so a DelayAdjust of -250
; will result in Message Delay 0=20 Ms, 1 = 250 Ms, 2 = 500Ms etc

DelayAdjust=+1750;

Since I have the the message delay in preferences set at the max of 4 which equals 1 1/4 seconds I have added an extra 1 3/4 seconds to make in a total of 3 seconds.

This is done done by changing the line in bold above from the default of 0 to +1750.

It seems to only affect the bottom messages not the top but it does allow me to see which weapon kills and allows me to orienate myself a bit better during large firefights.

I liked your idea of putting the weapon hit percentage next to the bottom message as I have the same issue of having to flick between the two.

I hope this helps some

Good gaming

Simon

Thanks Simon,

That was exactly what I needed.

Cheers,
Cross

Thanks, that sounds worth trying. I'm usually switching between Win MBT and WW2 and I find it quite hard to adapt each time - WW2 is so much quicker, e.g. artillery shells falling--- and when I go back to play MBT then it appears painfully slow ...

Hi Shan,

Before you change the Camogame.ini file, sounds like you just need to adjust your misc preferances. See here:

http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...b=5&o=&fpart=1

If you like the speed of WW2 just copy the prefs for MBT and it will run the same (on the same PC).
