Default MBT:Strela and Fagot Units

In a current MBT game I am playing, I have several Strela and Fagot units whom I can get to fire at units well within the range of their primary weapons. I do have the weapon types "turned on" too. I can't figure out why they won't fire. Not sure if I am missing something or if its a bug with the game.

Ok - first you say you can fire them, and then you say you cannot fire them. Not exactly clear what your problem is.

I'll assume that you cannot fire the weapons, since that makes more sense.

1) Have you got a shot available for the weapon slot? (Movement or suppression can remove these)
2) Have you got ammo remaining?
3) Are you inside the minimum range for that missile (Same as the sabot range). (Game Guide -> Encyclopaedia Page -> Weapon chart. Box entitled "Range")

Fagot - Min range 2 hexes.
Strelas - various minimum ranges 10 to 16 hexes.

4) Are you shooting at an appropriate target - SAM will not target non-aircraft, for example (ADATS being an exception).

Thanks for the reply. Your assumption is correct the weapons won't fire. Typo on my part.

Yes for #1 and 2
Yes and maybe for #3. The Fagot is definitely within the min range. I will need to check for the Strela once my opponent sends his turn.
No -firing on non-aircraft. This is the reason. Hope my opponent shows up with some aircraft soon. I was reading "Heat" as meaning "HE" for some reason. Wanted to bust some infantry out of a building. But means "Heat seeking...?"

HEAT in the game is for High Explosive Antitank, as in shaped charge.
This kind of ammo is used against armored targets, can also be used against soft vehicles and infantry when no HE is available, but only for unguided weapons as far as I know.

There is no difference made from the type of guidance in missiles in any case. And anyhow, of Fagot and Strela, only the Strela is heat-seeking, and you'll see that it comes only with HE ammo.
Just nitpicking

IIRC, all weapons (guided or not) can use HEAT against soft targets, provided they
1) have an HE Kill value (most ATGMs don't),
and
2) have more than 4 shots remaining.

That pretty much answers it then, both weapons get 2 shots max
SAMs are surface to air missiles so do not engage ground targets full stop.
ATGMs will fire at soft targets as in unarmored vehicles but better not to as tend to pass straight through doing little damage. As far as I know cant target infantry with & they are expensive with limited ammo so even if you could its a waste of said unit.

MMGs, GLs or light MTR is more what you should be going for & could suppress adjacent units or a bit of support from an APC if practical.
As a side note infantry will fire RPGs (HEAT) but tend to reserve the last couple of shots just in case a vehicle turns up.
