Default Worth moving on to SE5 from SE4?

Hi

I own SE4 Deluxe, but I'm not a veteran by any means. I've been keeping an eye on SE5 as it's got more stable and come down in price. My question is, now that 1.66 is out, given that I'm a casual player and play single-player exclusively, is it worth buying SE5, or should I just stick to SE4?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Is there a demo that represents the current state of the game?

The demo is still based on v1.25, which really isn't fair to the current game because it is quite stable these days and many items/features have been added in since then.

For most SE4 players, the bigger hurdle is if they can adapt from the SE4 UI to SE5 UI. It takes some patience to get used to SE5's interface because it takes some time before you figure out all the useful shortcuts and settings available that make it less burdensome than it appears to be at first.

For the $10-15 that SE5 sells for these days, it's certainly worth it.

I read between the lines: Are there AI improving mods already, or will there be as many as for SE4. Will SE5 ever be as good as SE4 singleplayer-wise.

I'm probably spending more time playing SEV than SEIV, but I don't see a strong reason to "move on" and play only one of them exclusively. (OTOH, most people don't have as much free time available as I do. I can afford to play both.)

One difference I do see between them is that in solo play, I can generally do more turns per gaming session in SEIV. I haven't gotten familiar enough with the SEV interface yet to smoothly do what I want to, which makes SEV more mentally fatiguing for me to play.

The first thing I did to customize the SEV interface was reassign some of the hotkeys back to the ones I'd memorized in SEIV.

go for it. I was in the same boat about 1 1/2 years ago. Should I play a well and established version like SEIV, or go for the gusto and buy SEV? At the time, the sticker price was $40. but when I actually went and bought it, the register rang up $20. I was relieved not to have to spend the extra $20, and I was really pleased and happy when I installed it. I haven't even thought about going back to SEIV, even if it means I can't play some of my favorite mods.

I would really like to hear some more solo player only comments about that - if they are still around that is.

There are frequently threads about that at the Strategy First SEV forums.
