Default Where is that .DAT file!?

Hi,

My father and I play WINSPMBT 5.5 download version.

We played 3 PBEM games and everything was working fine until today...

My father can't find the .DAT file anymore, only the .CMT in PBEM Games.

The .DAT file simply disapear after he finished is turn and we cant find it nowhere.

We cant play anymore via mail, but the game still working on his computer...

Someone know something about that?

My father use Windows Vista.

Thank you,

-Luc-

Vista is your problem then.

See the installing the game in vista and windows seven sticky at the top of the forum, and then ensure that your father has followed the instructions there.

Otherwise, vista/seven will store what it thinks are data files in weird and wonderful places depending on your user ID/logon. These will change e.g. if he logs in as administrator, or as himself. Sometimes vista/seven will manage to tie these together with the actual game, other times it will not. (It also does this with patch upgrades as well it appears - so the patch process can be completely borked by seven/vista if you tried to install to /program files/).

And that is why vista/seven users will have to install to a folder outside of the managed folder hierarchy, as detailed in the sticky. i.e outside of the /program files/ tree.

So I would suggest ending the current game, and then reinstalling from scratch. Then re-starting.

Once it is in its own directory (say C:\Games\WinSPMBT - the folder name does not matter as long as it is outside of the managed tree) then the files should be placed into the correct sub-folders, and not shot-gunned to various user data folders somewhere under whatever user profile he logged in as today.

NB - that applies for many pre-vista softwares. I have managed to get several older softwares to work in Windows Seven by installing to a folder structure outside of the managed (mangled? ) ones.

(I bet your father had logged in as someone other than his regular ID - e.g. administrator, from having used his personal log-on before?. )

Cheers
Andy
