Default Elddopet (Baptism of fire) for v.2.5

EDIT
Fixed the zip so that it now contains the .cmt file as well.
Sorry for the screw up, guys.

I've posted this over at the gamesdepot already, however I forgot that you can't get any feedback over there so I thought I'd post it here as well.
Any and all feedback appreciated as I'm thinking of making more scenarios depicting the same overall hypothetical invasion.

One thing though...I know that the playing experience isn't consistent as the AI will drop the german troops in different locations. I can't remedy that and I think it adds a nice touch. Also, the scenario might be percieved as quite difficult (again depending on where jerry lands) but this accurately depicts the Swedish military capability in 1941.

Elddopet (Baptism of Fire)
Date: May 12, 1941
Battle Location: Between Torna-Hallestad and Revinge, Sweden
Battle Type: "Hypothetical" Sweden Delay vs. German Advance

Description: You got the news over the crackling radio as you were out on manouvres with your company. Germany had, following the attack by an unknown group against a train transporting German soldiers through Sweden, decided to invade.

The attack was carried out during the early morning of May 12th, in almost the same way as Germany's invasion of Denmark and Norway.

German bombers and fighters attacked Swedish military airfields while German units landed in major Swedish ports, their transport ships being disguised as cargo vessels. At the same time German paratroops jumped close to major military installations. In the far north, German units in Norway crossed the border into Sweden.

This is what little information you managed to get before being ordered back to your regiment in Revinge.

Marching back along the small country roads one of your Sergeants draws your attention and tells you to listen. You can't hear it at first, but then, yes, well surely it can't be? Can it?
The ominous roar of airplane engines draw nearer.

Notes: If played against the AI the human player should take the Swedish side.

Source: Loosely based on the fictional novel "Attentatet i Palsjo skog" by Hans Alfredsson

Thanks I think I know someone who'd like to PBEM this one. I'll let you know how it goes.

Cool. I haven't tried it against a human opponent, hotseat or other, so your observations would be very much appreciated! However, I think the one playing the Swedish side will have a really hard time when playing against a human opponent. Still there are some surprises that might not be expected and which might turn the tables in a human vs. human game.

16 downloads and no feedback?
Any feedback, be it criticism or just a "I liked it" would be appreciated...(this doesn't apply to you PanzerBob since I realize pbem does take quite a bit longer).

The feedback doesnt have to pertain to this particular scenario even. I'd be just as happy to know if anyone was interested in me making more scenarios along the same theme.

Sincerely

One reason you might not get any feedback is you didn't include the CMT file and therefore it won't show up in the scenarios list and therefore anyone DLing and extracting this to their game won't see it in slot 360

I can include this in the next patch if you like. I'll need your full name though. You can send me a note off list.

I'm always fond of Swedish scenarios and this is a nice one.

short ARR:
I'm might been to used to the AI to let myself get into too deep troubles in the scenario.

As the Germans came in we destroyed the platoon landing right on top of us since they had no support and where suppressed until destroyed.

I then sent one platoon East and the rest slowly North,
here we got a heavy firefight but with some smoke I managed to get the upper hand and occupied the VP hex close to the crossroad.
Here comes the Gamey("too used of the AI") part as I prepared an ambush around the road and waited for the Germans while the platoon moving east started to switch north to capture the other VP hexes.
Gefreitete Lemmings and his pack went for the Swedish VP hex and let themself be destroyed piecemeal.

If you on the other hand play more as a real commander where expected to fight and counter attack into the Germans the scenario is more balanced.

Ideas for improvements would be to make some German troops to stay and defend the German VP hexes.
(I think you can tweak the AI that way)
Or just remove the two western VP hexes so the Germans can stay put while the Swedes have to attacking.

And for me I'd wouldn't mind some preliminary German airstrike to even out the first firefight.

It's possible that doing all above will make it too hard for the Swedes

Anyhow I think it's hard to make scenarios that suits all.
Now I replaying it with proper tactics, se how I fell after that.

BTW,
Alfredsson's Attentatet i Plsj skog is a suprisingly military correct book. (the writer is one of my absolute favorite comedians and started to write novels after more than twenty years in showbiz.)

Thanks for the scenario

/John T

WARNING! POSSIBLE SPOILER!

Glad you liked it and that you took the time to write an AAR!

Well, as you say, it's hard to balance the scenario. I've been playing it for the umpteenth time now and I find that my experience varies quite alot. The "easy kill" platoon jumping on top of you was put in there to lull the player into a false feeling of "This won't be that hard". Then running into stiffer resistance further north.

I find that the harder firefight to the north varies and accordingly the scenario varies depending on whether or not you manage to rally your troops who inevitably get suppressed. I mean, ending up with a couple of squads routing after the fight might not seem to bad until you engage Jerry in the woods. SMG's are hard to match with rifles in CQB.

I have however been playing with the idea of removing any and all smoke ammo ('cept for the mortars) from the Swedish units since you mentioned using it. However, this might make it too hard. A Jerry airstrike might delay you too much as it will surely rout/supress your units so I'm uncomfortable with the idea. Will try it out though for myself and see what happens. However, I'll be eagerly awaiting your next AAR without the "gameyness".
Anyways, thanks a bunch for playing it and I think I'll start work on the next scenario as soon as I get the time!
