Default Post Spanish Civil war COIN history?

Last night I watched a pre-screening of Pan's Labyrinth / El Laberinto del Fauno - highly recommended. A fantasy film of sorts set in 1944 Spain featuring in parts a sadistic Nationalist officer persuing a group of Republican hold outs in northern Spain near the French border.

I realize that there my be a lot of cinematic license / b.s. here but I am intrigued that Republicans were still active 5 years after the end of the Civil war and according to the movie using Stens.

Does anyone know any sites with information on what was going on militarily in Spain from say 39 to 45? Apart from the Blue Division of course.

Thanks.

There were, so I am told, Republican and ethnic nationialist partisans active until the forties or fifties. There's a Washington Post article dated 25, Octob. 1944 that mentions "Madrid admits Partisans have taken 22 frontier towns.

Thanks Troopie. I have found a few other references but nothing more than a line or two.
