Proper Fullscreen Support?
After playing the demo yesterday i just had to preorder this.
One major gripe though. Right now for owners of modern screens there are two ways to play AI:
1. In a tiny window like some kind of minesweeper coffee break game.
2. In a blown up maximized window where everything gets blurry and hard to read/distinguish.
Will there be some kind of full screen support for the full release? Even a "Borderless Window" mode would be preferable to the way it is now.
Looking forward to explore the galaxy when the game releases!

Re: Proper Fullscreen Support?
First, THANKS! Glad you like it.
This does need to be addressed, and you must understand what a complex issue it is.
0. I understand your concerns. I play on a 20 inch monitor (1600x900), sitting very close, with my glasses off, because my eyes have degraded significantly over the past year.
1. I will not design a game at this low resolution again. Lesson learned.
2. Approaching Infinity borders on 50,000 lines of code, with over 2400 individual images and 40-50 individual screens.
2a. every one of those images and screens is finely tuned to fit in the exact space allotted.
2b. The amount of work needed to re-design the entire game at a different resolution is enormous.
3. different people have different screen resolutions, and different opinions on the 'proper size'. "what might be right for you, might not be right for some"
4. David and I are playing around with an image re-sizer, and thinking about increasing the size of the map tiles, and making it scroll around the player. This has its own drawbacks, such as negating the immediate value of having sight range >7 , but would make for a more detailed playing field.
5. The game's popularity, coupled with a unified idea of what is the 'best' resolution among the players, could contribute to the resolution of this issue. Meaning, if I can get a big enough sampling of people's resolutions, before the next generation of screens comes out, that will be a big step in the right direction.
Release is only a few days away. I am excited. Please do enjoy the game, there is so very much to see!

Re: Proper Fullscreen Support?
Thanks for your answer.
My numeration was not meant to sound harsh. English is not my first nor my second language so i try to write as clearly and structured as possible.
I think i will just play in a maximized window then. (With an ugly windows border on top )

Re: Proper Fullscreen Support?
Hi Fennric,
I use enumeration all the time, in forums & emails.
It helps me to stay organized.
I certainly did not mean it in an angry way.
This game is going to be supported for a long time, and we will see what comes of it

Re: Proper Fullscreen Support?
I like the idea of being able to increase the resolution or size of tiles, like nethack, but I don't like the idea of making it so the whole sector/planet/cave level is not visible all at once. It's the major way I can look and see what I've explored or left unexplored. Perhaps there could be a zoom or map function that would provide the same info. That's just my 2 cents.

Re: Proper Fullscreen Support?
Choosing to have all the map visible at the same time was a major design choice for this game. I never wanted to compromise it.
nor did I want to make maps any smaller than 30x30.
currently the map area takes up 600x600 pixels, with tiles being 20x20.
jacking that up to just 24x24 would require 720x720,
which is technically doable at say 1200x800,
(that's an extra 156 pixels per image...interesting...)
ok, rambling...
MONDAY IS RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm... do we know, when the game will be up to download? Sitting in europe here and planning an allnighter. Think i'll stay up a while and recheck the store site.

Re: Proper Fullscreen Support?
Yes. Downloading it now. (Will be atleast another week until i receive the boxed copy + manual.)
Is it possible to play this game from an usb drive? Im just asking because i would very much like to play this game at home AND at work. (Theres always a little freetime.)
If not, maybe you could tell me where the savedata is located so i could copy it back and forth, depending on which system i want to play.

Re: Proper Fullscreen Support?
So now that it is out, how long will it take to get a boxed copy of the game (I'm in central VA)?
