Default [OT] - Gig!

Just a quick gloat: Me and the wife are off to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers tomorrow (With James Brown in support!).

The weekend starts in approximately 84 minutes...

Have fun!

That will be an awesome concert. RHCP are a good band.

I am trying to learn about to play Californication on Bass guitar, I just can't seem to get it down as good as Flea can.

I think James Brown just has sto be seen to believe. He's about 140 years old, but they still wheel him up there to perform- kind of like the Pope. I think he may be almost completely animatronic by now. ALso, I've heard that he had his hair laminated in 1972 and I want to see it up close.

Seriously, the guy is a legend, and in his time he was an awesome performer and gave us a whole stack of songs that are just as good now as they ever were. Even if his show isn't as good as it might once have been, it will be a privelege to have seen him live.

James Brown/ scifi trivia: Danny-John Jules cites James Brown as his inspiration when deciding how to play the Cat in Red Dwarf.

That's true, Dogs. Yes, true. But you show your age (smile). You know, he lives in the next state over and if he can JUST stop shooting at women...LOL.

Yeah? How old am I then? (No peeking at the "how old are you" thread...)

Gotta be in your 40's. If you're younger than that, you also are open-minded enough to watch B&W movies, I'm guessing.

BTW, I need to look up one song of his that used to be the "wake-up" song on one of the radio channels here.

You're way off Slynky but thanks, I'll take that as a compliment. You may now consult the other thread=-)

I don't watch B&W films much, but I appreciate their worth when I see them.
B&W films I like:
Way Out West
THe Ladykillers

B&W films that sucked (imho)
Brief encounter
uhh... I need to watch some more old films.

There are a ton of great movies out there that are in b&w, but with today's generation of movie watchers used to the latest computerized special effects in color, I don't think that most of those old flicks hold much appeal to them. I still think most of them are worth watching, even the old outdated Harryhausen films with the stop-motion photography.

preaching to the converted- SE4 players are ppl who appreciate quality gameplay over flashy graphics (not that there's anything necessarily wrong with flashy graphics) so it stands to reason they will be ppl who appreciate story/quality/comedy/content over special effects in films (not that special effects in films are necessarily a bad thing.)

The biggest problem with old films is the culture gap- old language, attitudes, ways of life- some of these things do not always translate well into the modern age.
