Default New Ideas on the UN OOB

Me and PlasmaKrab have worked on this for some time. First off he's done alot of Icons for ALOT of vehicles used by the UN, Launet did some reserch as well.

We've also included A large selection of weapons, Including some that aren't in the game so far (the MP7 for example).

Senario Design Tools: the reason why I wanted to include these in the patch are to get around the problem of issuing OOB's and SHP's with you senario. some people are libale to be put off by having to install those as well as the game files. I'm betting senario designers would want to have the most possible audience for their craft. I've left the weapons slots balnk so the Designer can mod them in game to represent the right period.

A large Frigate or Destroyer. (units: 149, 150, 151), I wanted a Large ship for use in an attack on a port senario.

Crew served heavy weapons (units: 153, 154, 155): (Seperate Crew and weapons, Like Field-guns), such as AGL's, ATGM's and SAMS. suppose the mission is to represent an enemy getting caught of guard. He has to move a crew unit to man the weapons to repulse an attack.

TEL's (unit 158): carrying SCUD or FROG rockets. Perfect the Scud hunt missions in the 1991 gulf war.

Heavy Transport planes (Units 276, 277, 278): Assigned as helicopters, to allow evacuation or insertion of troops at some point in a senario. How about a para drop to capture an airfield, then later on the transports return to pick the troops up after they've done a mission?

Ordnance section changes *Important*
"Demolitions" (unit 228): an ammo supply Vehicle that will blow on Turn one (and leave no Icon). Useful for bringing down Bridges or buildings. To achive this, I've had to increase the distructive power of the Ammo explosion, you have been warned...

"Sucide bomb" (Units 384, 385): a Civilian car icon and stats, only Ammo Carrier class. Perfect for middle Eastern games.

This is really nice work! The demolition unit is something very new! At least to me. How did you get the demo unit to work as it does? The shps are well done, too. Looks like the UN is now a force to be reckoned with! Don't forget to use the Nigerian! They're tough cookies.

As the ammo truck uses the 1000Lb bomb (as I recall, it was a long time back! - which then had to be ensured to be in the exact same slot in all oobs for ammo explosion effects, then you might want to rename that weapon to something else, and put a standard 1000lb bomb elswherein the weapon list (if the UN uses strike planes at all, instead of using Allies for tac air ? ). (it also messes with that requirement for the 1000lb/equivalent Kg air bomb to be same in all OOBS).

Cheers
Andy

Yes it does, hence the warning. To get it to drop the bridges and buildings most (about 80-90%) of the time I had to increase the warhead and weapon size.

As after much disscussion I was convinced not to have air strikes, it didn't seem to matter.

Hmm - how about using say 2 of those demolitions just to be sure, with the original stats, or was that not reliable enough a measure?.

I tested it out the 1000Lb numbers failed to drop a bridge more than half the time. and alot of the time it seemed to bounce off buildings. Granted this was in the DOS game. I shall try it in WinMBT shortly.

I did try an experiment of replacing the 1000Lb bomb unit with a FASCAM, just to see if it would work... It didn't

One other problem you might want to look at is, units with crew 0 die automatically on the first turn, not when they renforce.

Right Results from the test.

Unit 198 1000Lb bomb stats, with warhead and Weapon size set to 255.

10 games run, 8 bridges in each game over a 4 hex wide river.
the total number of bridges destroyed are:
2,4,6,1,2,4,2,5,2,5.

Total: 33 out of 80 bridges dropped.
Guess the nmubers have changed a little between versions...

Maybe a higher HEK would help but I haven't tried that.

showing my ignorance here, but I can't get the frigate/destroyer icons to appear...bow, midships, stern. the other new icons seem ok.
