Re: Problems with version 9.1

An odd little bug turned up in 9.1 tonight. Running under Win 8, full screen, campaign version. In the middle of the battle, quite without warning, there started to be a lag between firing visual...

Quite silly question

Just managing to start playing after a fatal HDD crash. Alas, my manual is long gone, but most of the controls are relatively intuitive.

Except one. How do I change the names of the heroes?

Creating OOBs

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people who ask questions. This one is mine: Is it possible to create a completely new oob, or does one have to edit one of the existing ones? I was...

I imagine one could hack a few OOBs and scenaria using the Horse and Musket engine.

Re: Crossbows vs. Longbows

Getting back to the OP's question, I wondered the same thing when I started playing the game. I figured both crossbows and longbows should be AP weapons. It appears, however, from information...

Re: Questions About Heroes, Forging, and Scrying

Not having a scout at the beginning is no big deal, but as Sombre said, I do try to live up to my name.

Creating two monsters and not making them recruitable took care of the uniqueness problem,...

Re: Questions About Heroes, Forging, and Scrying

Ah, that actually makes a sort of sense. It isn't clear from either manual that "hero" is an event, and not a specific creature.

My question #2 was not worded carefully. What I really wanted to...

Re: Turn Limit for Perpetuality

Is the .map file going to be made available for download along with the .bmp file? Since I'm only an observer, and not a player of this madness, I would need it in order to be able to actually see...

Questions About Heroes, Forging, and Scrying

In the mod I'm working on (coming soon to a web site near you), the design intent is for the nation to be ruled by a sort of "triumvirite," of Pretender, Field Marshal, and Prophet. The FM and...

Re: Perpetuality - EA Mictlan

This thread has been better than most novels. "Epic" is the word I'm looking for, here.

Re: The Art of Placement

If having two bodyguards is effective, why not ten? Ten of your cheapest brand of troop, since the idea is to soak up ranged attacks, not to fight. Most mages, I daresay, cost more than ten chaff...

Re: The map that will never be

I like NTJedi's idea of having independents named for Forum stalwarts. There's some good potential for humor in that idea.

Map looks very nice. The only criticism I can offer is that some of the...

The 300 look cool, but what I want to see is their 20,000 opponents.

Re: Loemendor Dom III version

Mes apologies, but that reminder confuses me. What (and where) exactly do I need to download to play this map, other than the attachment made by the OP?

Alien Eye Candy Mod

This little mod provides a baker's dozen mugshots of pretty girls to replace the alien image graphics provided with the game. No ships, no AIs, just portraits, already formatted
in 128X128, 20X20,...

Differntiating Hull Sizes

I'm wondering if there is a way to make the hull sizes for various classes race-specific or tech-specific. The rational being that some race might be a bit smaller than average, and thus able to...

Re: Bigger Galaxies?

Fyonn: you take all the fyonn out of life.:) Seriously, though, good work on the star list. It would save lots of work for people who want a "real" science fiction atmosphere to their SE4 games.

Re: Bigger Galaxies?

Ah, Hoth is Hodr. I wonder who changed the spelling? The only Hoth I know of is "Pappy" Hoth, the German panzer general.

I was wondering if the FQM standard was useable without the image mod,...

Re: Bigger Galaxies?

Most nearby stars have relatively boring names, like "Groombridge 386" and "Luyten 28," which may be one reason why the SE designers didn't use "real" star names. But an easy Google search will come...

Re: Bigger Galaxies?

Names are no problem; I'm already adding to the list, since SE4 doesn't include names of Milky Way stars in it's list. With enough Denebs, Arcturuses, and Betelgueses, I'll have plenty of names.

Re: Bigger Galaxies?

Thanks. Given that my internet connection is dialup, I don't think I'll be doing many 30 mb downloads anytime soon, but adjusting the number of systems will be easy.:)
