To close this ticket/issue...

In the end, the app's files were deleted, reinstalled and the campaign ran through to the second battle without incident by not modifying units.

Crud, after deleting the previous install and then reinstalling them from the CD, the game crashes again at the same point. The previously downloaded v9 patch was also run after the main game files...

Well, after changing a few unit names as suggested, the game crashes at the same point in that campaign.

Acknowledging Imp's suggestion, but yet still leaning towards starting over with a fresh...

Ahh.... I did make some new units; i.e. modified the OOB. That must be the issue.

If I were to remove and reload the program on my Windows based system to clean things up, how would I do that...

Ok, ran checkdisk with repair options and the same crash occurs at the same place.
