Re: "An army equipped with vintage M-48 tanks ......"

Ok, just for laughs - I started a small generated campaign...:)

US Army vs Iraq,
Feb-March, 1987
10 battles
Starting core of 5000 battle pts.
I will use only computer generated scenarios, no...

Re: "An army equipped with vintage M-48 tanks ......"

I used smoke to hide behind. That would be dangerous against a human opponent who could mass Z-fire into the wadi, and like you said would adjust his arty assests better.

I doubt 12 turns is...

Re: "An army equipped with vintage M-48 tanks ......"

Probably..., but against a human opponent, not neccessarily. There are some really good, very experienced players out there.

Re: "An army equipped with vintage M-48 tanks ......"

Interesting, in my game most hard targers were taken out by the M-48s or artillery. Bradley TOW knocked out one bunker and a T-55, IIRC.

Progress in the wadi was slow, and a bit risky because of...

:D

This one was trickier...:)

Re: "An army equipped with vintage M-48 tanks ......"

I did play it cautiosly, hiding behind smoke during the advance.
I was lucky though, one AH-64 took some ZSU fire when I popped up some to have a look-see...,bit risky, but the ZSU didn't hit....

Re: "An army equipped with vintage M-48 tanks ......"

Against the AI it's a massacre. American firepower and 40 vis units still rule the battlefield.

Most Iraqi units were killed in their forming up point by Air and Arty.

Re: Phantom Barbed Wire

Good you found a solution - and yeah, I figured you'd probably spent a great deal of time customizing the CORE OOB (I assume the campaign core is set to FIXED not OPEN)...

though sometimes one...

Re: Phantom Barbed Wire

Do you have a "clean" save of the map, i.e. before any units etc were added?

Re: TOTAL WAR 1985

Yeah, I know, this is a wall of text, but for the laugh at the end, I guess it's worth it. My guess is the author(s) not only about the Finnish sisu, but also the relationship between SWE - DK.

:D...

Re: TOTAL WAR 1985

The Third World War: August 1985 is a book written by the British general John Hackett in 1978. The purpose was a bit to "open the eyes" of people. It focus on a fictional NATO vs WP war of 1985, in...

Re: Ironically hilarious environmentally friendly, comfortable and safe BMP-1

STIRX is also known as 12 cm pansarsprängvinggranat 94. It is fired by the 12cm Grk m/41D mortar system. Some online sources claims it has been used since 1994. For OOB purposes maybe 1/95 or 1/96...

Unit 67......... ???[/QUOTE]

Yep, indeed. It will probably be designated Ptgb 360 in Swedish service - an abbrevation for "armoured terrain car" - but the vehicle initially thought to enter...

Re: Ironically hilarious environmentally friendly, comfortable and safe BMP-1

Don,

re: possible changes to OOB066 it might be wise to include an end date for unit 055 Pbv-401 too - the "Swedish MTLB", this track actually saw some service but has now been retired. The last...

Re: Adventures in Campaign Building by a Beginner

I find waypoints useful.

It is possible to make AI formations move where I want them to, broadly speaking. AI formation left without waypoints will in many cases take some other route.

And...

Re: Ironically hilarious environmentally friendly, comfortable and safe BMP-1

The Pbv 501? Yes, and it can be argued they were never really on it. More of a 'what-if thing' really - however at the time OOB066 was constructed it seemed like the Pbv 501, though a stop gap...

Re: Ironically hilarious environmentally friendly, comfortable and safe BMP-1

Pansarbandvagn 501 (BMP-1) was bought to give infantry brigades some armoured protection and was a replacement to the Bandvagn 206/Tgb type trucks previously used.

They were intended to be used in...

Re: The "Z" direct fire key - are they even trying

Depends, Z fire can actually be very effective. Especially newbie PBEM players used to combat AI led forces will be in for a world of hurt against experienced players who master the art of Z fire.
