Re: What is the best pretender for Ulm?

This one is a good candidate for the optimal MA Ulm pretender. Ulm can forge heavy armor and shield without any research and that's enough for GK to start taking indies. GK can take province, search...

Re: Why no Save game Feature

Being a consumer and paying money doesn't entitle you to any sensible feature you want. Nevertheless, even though Johan is notorious for his dislike of UI programming, it's reasonable to assume that...

Re: Widescreen ?

OpenGL+SDL should accept any sensible screen sizes (including widescreen) and I don't think there's any auto-layout support in SDL. There're very few libraries that has auto-layout on any OS. So it's...

Re: Widescreen ?

I don't think it has anything to do with the libraries. It's just a matter of how Dominions calculate size/position of panels: from 2 dimensions (width and height) or from one dimension (width or...

Re: Any Good Non-Bless Strategy Nations

EA Ermor and Caelum are good nations for non-bless strategies and non-bless strategies are arguably better for them than bless ones.

Re: Single player question/

I don't think that saying that AI in Dom3 bad is correct. It actually plays relatively reasonable (though straightforward strategy). Its main weakness is that it always plays the same strategy, and...

Re: Windows Email Notifier?

It's useful for all kind of things that are otherwise very difficult on Windows. But considering that it's essentially a large set of many convenient utilities, it's hard for most people to find a...

Re: Another simple improvement

Right, programmers love to eat. They don't need to eat as much as 1000 people (and they even can't eat as much as 1000 people), but they still love to have enough money to eat as much as 1000 people...

Re: Anyone else using Vista + Dom3?

I agree, there's no rush to switch to Vista. But if it comes out well I won't be opposed to switching to it (unlike switching to XP).

Re: Dominions 3 and micromanagement

<Ctrl-N>/<N> shortcuts is almost that - consider that <Ctrl-N> saves meta-script and <N> loads it. They are not persistent between the games, but that's not a big problem. The main problems comes...

Re: EA Atlantis a love/hate relationship

S3 or S1 on non-immortal SC pretender? It's just asking for opportunistic mage to teleport in and challenge him. It's not every day one gets a chance to slay 690hp SC so easy...

Re: Dominions 3 and micromanagement

I don't think that doing something like recruiting couple of indy units here and couple there was useful in Dom2 and I never did it (but maybe I was wrong about that). In Dom3 vanilla it seems quite...

Re: Anyone else using Vista + Dom3?

I think that OpenGL as layer on top of DirectX is not necessarily a bad thing. Performance bottlenecks are usually either in GPU performance or in the bus bandwidth. Those places are not affected by...

Re: Dominions 3 and micromanagement

In my experience long MPs in Dom2 were often getting abandoned around turn 80-100 due to too much micromanagement. In vanilla Dom3 it seems more like turn 40. Spending an hour a day to do mostly...

Re: Dominions 3 and micromanagement

In the settings I've mentioned as my current favourite that doesn't happen. Amount of micromanagement is reduced maybe by 3-4 times, if not more. I think that one reason that there're shortcuts for...

Re: Dominions 3 and micromanagement

I've tried those idea only in SP and in the blitz. Long MP would obviously take some time and willing guinea pigs.

Re: Anyone else using Vista + Dom3?

It's probably the drivers. ATI was notorious for poor OpenGL drivers and with Vista drivers being still in a bit "beta", I'd guess OpenGL wasn't their first priority

Dominions 3 and micromanagement

I was anticipated Dom3 a lot hoping that it would solve Dom2 micromanagement problems in the late game. As everybody probably knows, late game in Dom2 was bogging down becoming a chore due to...

Re: Is there a battlefield map mod for Dom III?

Wordpad is ok, unless you have to deal with Unicode.
