				 A question of range.....
I need to determine something for the new weapons I'm adding to my Mod project.
I need to get a general consensus as to what is considered short, medium, and long range in terms of weapons in SEIV

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

				 Re: A question of range.....
I posted this over at SE.net, but I think 1-5 is short, 5-10 is medium, and 10-20 is long range. Direct Fire weapons are typically only given short to medium ranges because of SE4's default -10 per square range penalty. |

				 Re: A question of range.....
Depends on whether you consider mounted or unmounted, seekers or direct fire, and it also depends on the mod's intent and its propulsion system. For instance, in stock I don't think the Wave Motion Gun even goes out beyond range 8 or 10 or so (unmounted), but weapons are allowed to go up to range 20.
I guess a general idea might be:
 1-4: short
 5-8: medium
 9-20: long

But then, if ships are slow in your mod, you might want to adjust the ranges downward; if they are fast, you might want to adjust them upward.

				 Re: A question of range.....
Other than seekers, do ANY weapons actually go out s far as 20?
What weapons are usually considered as either short, medium, or long range, as a comparison?

In stock? No, I don't think so...
 Short weapons:
ripper beam, early DUC, early APB

 Medium weapons:
advanced DUC, midgame APB, early plasma missiles

 Long weapons:
WMG, advanced APB, all other seekers

My preferred scheme is more like:1-3= short range
 3-5= medium
 5-6= long
 Infinite= Missiles

				 Re: A question of range.....
I also count the Organic weapons as being longer range. They also go out to 8 in stock. Plus a large WP with a massive mount will add 4 or five to that range. 13 is not quite 20, but it does get up there, especially when planets are pretty much required to start in the center of the combat map.
