How do ship sets look? Some of the pictures look great, but do they look good in game? Seems like they would involve 3D modeling, which seems tricky to me....

In PBW, it sounds like you can just click on a shipset and voila! it shows up in your game. Or, do you need to download the files locally?

The portraits you can see in previews are generally how they will look in-game, as they tend to be rendered straight from the models.

As I said in the other thread, the selection of shipset on PBW for a particular game is only for player convenience, informing the other players what you will be using. You still need to install all of them in your local copy.

With wings3d, if you can play with play-dough, you can make a model.

Quality is a different matter, but it is by far the easiest modeler I've tried.
