Crossover for free on Tuesday, October 28, 2008
I wonder why I didn't think of announcing this here, since I know about it since over 12 hours and it's already Wednesday in Europe by now...
The guys over at CodeWeavers are giving away their CrossOver products CrossOver Mac, CrossOver Linux, CrossOver Games Mac, and CrossOver Games Linux, a fork of WINE, for free today, apparently over losing a bet that GW Bush wouldn't be keeping a single one of the five goals that he announced. Apparently petrol IS cheaper by now.
So, you can download the software for free from http://down.codeweavers.com/ for probably a few hours more and apply for a registration key there, too. The site is pretty minimalistic now after the servers went to their knees due to the resulting hits on the website - watch the video.

Hope that helps somebody who has to or wants to run Windows programs or play a game or so.

Already got them, but thanks for the post. I believe it is mainly a marketing thing, but hey, free software is free software. |

I guess it is, too. But it doesn't hurt me any to try out and use their software for as long as I like. I heard of others who were happy up to this point with their 5.x version installed that they got for free before, too. |

I have a new Macbook Pro that I am going to try them out on. If I can really run Windows games on it acceptably, that will be very cool. |

As an aside note, the new Macbook Pros are awesome. Forged from a single piece of aluminum. I dropped mine earlier today (doh!). Not a bit of damage. And, they are extremely fast, and have two graphics chips. |

That's really cool as I'm wondering right now if I should install windows on a second partition or leave it away once and forever.
Is the serial key needed to run the programs or is it there to get new updates?

Nope, seems the serial key isn't needed. |
