How to Trade Technology

I haven't been able to figure this out, so thought I'd ask the experts.

If I wish to trade technology at level 5 to someone who has level 3, do I need to:

a. click the technology 5 times (to reach level 5)?

b. click the technology level 2 times (to increase the other person's level by 2)?

It seems that sometimes I receive technology upgrades when only one level is traded or given. Other times, it says the technology is no better that what I have.

You need to click it 5 times to give them all 5 levels. Even though they already have 3 levels. Hope that helps.

No you don't. If you give them 2 levels, it gives them 2 levels, up to the max you have. If they have 0, then gifting them 2 raises them to 2. If they have 3, gifting them 2 raises them to 5. If they have 4, gifting them 2 only raises them to 5, because they can not get tech levels from you that you do not possess. If they lie, they can get higher tech levels than you think you are getting, and you will be none the wiser.

Thanks for the information. I wasn't sure, so thought the experts could point me in the correct direction.

Wonder if Rags was trying to get me to give him more tech than I was planning to give him?

Nah, I wouldn't do that.
But seriously, the way I've observed is what I said it did. But I must not be looking too closely as I missed that. Oh well, isn't like it's the first time I was wrong.
