				 Re: want to PBEM
well, I suppose time constraints are really what make the pbem a little more relaxed, but on the other hand gameplay might require some time... does anyone know of an active mailing list which still organizes pbem games? |

I'm interested, tell me what you have in mind for the game settings.
Edit : Trooper, pbem takes a loooong time. Your games will probably be over by the time this one becomes complex enough to take up more than ten minutes per turn.

				 Re: want to PBEM
well, was wondering if you have suggestions, as I am a newb. However let me try to put down some points:- AIs: I suppose no downright friendly AIs would spice up the game, tentatively I would opt for all human players but... at the moment there are only three of us! Any more are welcome come on guys!
 - MODs: now here you will have to help me. I only installed the TDM ModPack however I gather some others might be worth installing (which?)
 - no viewing scores of anyone!
 - infinite resources (?)
 - quadrant size depending on no. of players: what about tot. no. players (AI+HUman) = (Human players x 3)
 - AIs difficulty and resources: ?

Anyone is welcome, actually, what about putting up an *active* PBEM site?

 Nice site, Erax... ;-)

 cheers to all,
 dav

				 Re: want to PBEM

All that PBW does is automate the collection and distribution of game and plr files in PBEM games. A PBW game is 100% identical to a PBEM game. There is absolutely no reason why you could not set up a PBW game with no timed turns. There are a large number of games like that on PBW already.Quote:

When I finish those two ones, I'll have more time...

In fact, it is kind of silly not to use PBW. You can even get the PBW admins to set up a custom mod for your game to use if you ask them.

Go to www.malfador.com and then into SE4, and find the Mods list page (linked on the main news page (first one that loads up)). It has a list of links to most (nearly all) of the mods out there.

				 Re: want to PBEM
 about PBW / PBEM :
PBEM enables turn play with stategic combat and PBW only use simulatenous ?

I see PBEM as a "hotseat" game on distant computers, am I wrong ?

				 Re: want to PBEM
Strategic and simultaneous are for 2 different things.
There is combat: strategic or tactical. I doubt that tactical is possible in PBEM, and at least would not be very advisable for obvious reasons .

Then movement: simultaneous or turn-based. I would always prefer simultaneous in a multi-player game, is much fairer to the players with higher player numbers. It takes some time to get used to it if you have played turn-based vs. AI up to now, but its not more difficult, just different.

So, unfortunately , I have to agree to Fyron: it is kind of silly not to use PBW.
