Strategy Guides and other analysis documents.
Here's another question I've been mulling over for a number of months now.
I used to play Stars!, and after a while there were a large number of documents created by players which covered race design, ship design (general and by race), Trait vs points analyses, ad infinitum.

I have searched around for a long time now and it seems like these documents are few and far between for SEIV.

So I have been pondering why this is the case.

Part of it is that SEIV is a better designed game which makes it more difficult for someone to write a "If you build it this way, you will win" document.

I also think that all of the Mods make it very difficult AND that if people did start writing these documents then Mods would com into being to counter-act the analyses.

It could also be that I have just not been successful in my searching.

I was wondering what other thought about this.

We are starting one in section 17 of the Newbie FAQ:http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...;f=23;t=005518
But there is no "if you build it this way, you will win" in SE4. If there were, this game would be easily mastered and then be boring. There are counters to every tactic which makes it fun.

There is the Dubious guide and the Tactics and Strategy site. Do they count?
you make a good point, however, to sit down and do what you suggest would take a level of envolvment that most of us just can not provide at this time. The FAQ does a really good job of providing info and Slick has done a great job organizing it.

The one thing that is so great about this community is that someone will eventually do what you are suggesting, it really is just a matter of time. [ April 05, 2003, 01:47: Message edited by: Atrocities ]

Re: Strategy Guides and other analysis documents.
 Thanks,
I had not taken the time to read the Newbie FAQ in its entirety. All I can say is WOW!. I made some notes that I want to test to see if I can contribute to this body of knowledge. I mane, if I'm going to ask for this information, then I should be willing to produce some of it....
I do have a question concerning an entry in the FAQ.

Organic Armor:

6.1.10 Organic armor will regenerate only in battle, not in strategic mode. If got 1 left, engage immobile target and just sit there to regenerate. This is expected to be fixed in the next patch.

Is this the case for 1.84 (I know the FAQ says it was updated for 1.84, but I want to make certain).

If this is true, and you are playing a simultaneuos game, then the Organic armor will never regenerate, correct? Seems to be a mojor negative there. |

It was definitely true in pre-1.84. It is supposed to be fixed in 1.84. I haven't tested it yet. If you test it, please post your results.Quote:

In simultaneous games, it could be repaired 2 ways: 1) repair outside battle by a spaceyard or repair bay, 2) regenerate in a subsequent battle where little/no damage was taken.

SE4 Modding 101 is essentially an analysis document of the data files. |
