				 Base and satellite placement
Hey, can someone tell me the answeres to these questions:
 1. Where are bases that are in orbit around planets placed during combat? (dispersed randomly accross the map or kept together somewhere)

 2. Are they kept at the same place for all combats in that sector or do they "move" around?

 3. If you drop satellites off at a warp point are they close to the warp point or just placed randomly somewhere on the map?

 4. If you build a base at a warp point, is it near it or placed randomly?

I could test all of this but it would take a while...

				 Re: Base and satellite placement
bases and sats are placed near by a planet, slightly randomly, but always on the far side away from the attacker. presumeably because the attacker can pick his angle of approach, but there has been much *****ing and debate about that in the past.
you can increase your coverage by building multiple bases, and some may end up on the near side of the planet, if you have enough. sats always end up in a single stack.

any warp point defenders, be they ships or bases or whatever, appear near the warp point if the enemy is coming through it. they also get the first shot! warp points are handy things to defend! if someone is approaching the warp point from the near side, i think you just start out at opposite ends of the map.

				 Re: Base and satellite placement
I see...because in the simulator if you put on a planet and a few bases they get placed randomly across the map.
I hope you're sure about this.

The simulator does not include all aspects of battle. It can give you an idea of what your ships can do, but real combat is always different.

In the next patch, giving a player planets or bases in the simulator combat will cause them to be placed in the center, as well as all their ships.

				 Re: Base and satellite placement
I see... so if you have say 10 bases they are all spread around the planet in a sort of "orbit" or what?

 Basically, yes.

No. They are grouped near the planet, but not spread evenly. It is possible to have them all in one bunch on one side of the planet. Having more increases the chance of having some on the side that you are being attacked on, but there is no guarantee. |

				 Re: Base and satellite placement
So have I. I think it just seems that they are always placed incorrectly because they can be placed anywhere around a planet, but most of the available area is not between the attacker and the planet. I sure wish this would be improved. I wish satellites and bases would go into a number (say 4 or 6) Groups around the planet. Maybe SE5 will have such placement.
 Slick.
