				 Problem installing TDM-Modpack
I'll repost it since it appears not to have made it to the board the first time.
Having a problem installing TDM-Modpack 3.40. The install returns an overridable error message saying something like, "There is no SE4 executable in the target directory. Continue anyway? Yes? No?"

So I try manually pointing it to the directory and I still get this message.

What, if anything, am I doing wrong?

I've never encountered that particular error before...sorry I can't help you, but someone around here ought to be able to.
Though perhaps there is a problem with your TDM mod installer... Maybe the file has become corrupted somehow, enough to give you the error you're seeing. If you have a fast enough connection, I'd suggest re-downloading, just to be sure you have a pristine copy of the files.

Ironically enough, I did re-download the file before the re-install. Made no difference. Got it from the link in the FAQ on this forum. Sigh. |

				 Re: Problem installing TDM-Modpack
Is there a se4.exe in the directory?
Try a full reinstall off the CD, it might be looking for something in the registry.

Also exactly what is the problem if you can just hit the continue anyways button?

 | Never had this problem... If you answer "YES" (to Continue Anyway?), then, the installing TDM process continue without problems? |

SpaceEmpires.net hosts a RAR archive of TDM for just this purpose. No installer to deal with. You can just extract this to your SE4 folder and be done with it. TDM-ModPack 3.40 Rar Archive |

				 Re: Problem installing TDM-Modpack
I saw this problem myself. It turns out that the .exe for the TDM Mod pack you get from online souces is lloking for the wrong folder. Let it do what it wants. If you're in the mood to overwrite stock SE4 with the modpack files then just move them afterward. Or make a folder under the SE4 folder and put them there, if you intend to use the Mod Pocker program or manually change path.txt |

				 Re: Problem installing TDM-Modpack
The installer searches your registry for the correct install location (but has to do some tricks that might fail because of a install text string missing in the registry).
It will check if this (or your manual selection) points it to the correct install location. If it reports the error "There is no SE4 executable in the target directory. Continue anyway? Yes? No?" then your have point it most likely NOT to the correct location and TDM will not install correctly.

TDM is supposed to reside under [Space Empires Main Folder]\TDM and you have to point it to the folder where the SE4.exe is located, i.e. [Space Empires Main Folder], not a submenu of the main folder! The installer will create a subdirectory on its own and install to the correct location if you point it to the location the SE4.exe is.

Are you sure that you have pointed the installer to the correct Space Empires folder? To which location did you install TDM? When you start SE4 with TDM, does the intro screen tell you that you are using TDM?

				 Re: Problem installing TDM-Modpack
OK, so I go to: http://tdm.otaku42.de/ and I download TDM-Modpack ver 3.40 for Gold (I already have it installed, but what the hey, its just a test). The exe does its search, and wants to load the TDM Modpack to folder: C:\PROGRA~1\SHRAPN~1\MALFAD~1\Space Empires IV . Which is not where SE4 is installed on my system, its in folder: "C:\Program Files\Shrapnel Games\Malfador Machinations\Space Empires IV Gold\" .

I think when I loaded the TDM modpack most recently, I selected another folder, then moved it in file manager to where I wanted it. Apparantly so did Fyron. Mephisto, the .exe may need some tweaks to help out some total noobs. |

				 Re: Problem installing TDM-Modpack
It got the location of the SE directory correct - the "~1" is how DOS manages windows file and directory names longer than 8 characters, and apparently there's still some legacy code that causes it to turn up here; it works just fine, but it might confuse some people - but the version for SEIV Gold needs to add " Gold" to the end of the assumed directory name. |
