Re: The \"What would we do without Space Empires\" P
I don't spend that much time playing se4 these days. Maybe a few hours a week to keep up with my PBW commitments. Therefore, without se4 I probably wouldn't see a major life-change.
However, without se4 (Or, more specifically, without these forums)

 - I probably woulnd't bother maintaining a website (I barely do anyway)
 - I would never have written O&C or the Courier or the lifeboat.
 - I would not now be writing my first novel.
 - I would never have rediscovered the joys of pixel art.
 - I would never have dabbled in 3D art via DOGA.
 - I would never have read any of David Weber's books.
 - I would never have discovered Schlockmercenary.
 - I would never have discovered nethack or wesnoth.
 - I would have missed out on a million laughs and dozens of friends.
 - I wouldn't know or understand half as much as I do now about physics, technology, politics, history, literature, internet culture and a thousand other things.

These are the main things that spring to mind now, but there are countless other things that this community has given me too numerous to list here.

So although losing se4 wouldn't give me much extra free time, the loss of all those other things would. I don't actually know what I'd be doing with my spare time. Scary to think of it, actually. I thjink I'd be feeling very frustrated at my lack of any creative outlet.

Thank you all, and thank you Shrapnel.

Re: The \"What would we do without Space Empires\" P
Well said Dogscoff. I was trying to think of what to say, but you summed it up very nicely from my viewpoint as well. I don't spend as much time playing SEIV as I used to, but I don't think the time playing has been as valuable as the people I've been privledged enough to come to know, even if it's only one facet of their personality. This game truely is priceless to me, not only because of what it is, but because of what it has done.
