It never occurred to me to turn it off, so I have always had it on. Would there be any reason or any advantage to turning it off?

OFF would mean the player would be in total control of who gets rallied.

Yes, but I manually rally any unit I want to rally during the turn. Auto rally just makes sure I do not forget to rally someone, alternately I can just let auto rally do the job for all units if I am in a defensive situation and do not want to open fire. |
