 www.rarlabs.com
I think the discussion was in the Official Image Collection thread (or whatever the Image Mod thread is called...).

				 Re: (OT) Zip Programs
First of all, there is a Zip for Windows from PKware, the inventors of ZIP format. It's just called 'PKZip for Windows' as far as I know. Find it at www.pkware.com IIRC?

There is also Quickzip, which handles lots of other formats but it's a little bit buggy. It can't handle multi-file archives in RAR format, even though it claims it can for example. And it will skip several files when extracting a ZIP if it hits a file with a bad CRC, which means you need another program to extract the file(s) it skips. Still, it's nice in many ways. I do use it. Find it at www.quickzip.org if you want to try it. |

				 Re: (OT) Zip Programs
WinRAR handles all archive formats and does them better than (or equal to) most programs. It is most certainly better at compressing files than WinZip is. |

				 Re: (OT) Zip Programs
My favorite is PowerArchiver, used to be free, I think it's freeware now.it mergers better with the windows shell than the others , my opinion. Especially handy when unzipping many files at once bu right clicking on them.
 Also handles most formats.
WinRAR is good to but I haven't used that one for almost a year now.

				 Re: (OT) Zip Programs
I started it in the Image collection thread when I mentioned 7-Zip http://www.7-zip.org
It has the best compression of any zip program I have seen and its free.

				 Re: (OT) Zip Programs
Try UltimateZip - supports a zillion file formats and a handy Windows Explorer integrated menu! Only problem is when you try to open a zip file, you have to wait for a little popup screen, but with the explorer integration you hardly ever have to do that anyway...
