The theater trailer for the March release is now available.
The war machine actually looks like a war machine, the English army actually uses period weapons and uniforms, and the scenes are identifiable.

God save us. Oh please save us from this. Why can't people just accept what was done and instead of making a remake that is going to be horribly made, make something new and market it to the sci-fi channel. At least then we will all know its craph and won't have to waste $8.00 to find out.
I wonder when they are going to do a remake of the Forbidden Planet, or the Day The Earth Stood Still?

Are any movies of today not remakes of, rip-offs of or "inspired by" another movie/series/comic?

Are you aware there are in fact 2 versions coming out. The low budget version and the Steven Spielberg effort, starring Tom Cruise?. I read the aliens use tripods but they aren't martians. |

Sequels and ripoffs are a much 'safer' form of income than original pictures, being as that while they rarely succeed bigtime they usually succeed financially. |

AT, I refer you to this re-qoute 'The war machine actually looks like a war machine, the English army actually uses period weapons and uniforms, and the scenes are identifiable.'
In other words, there's hope.

I watched Chronicles of Riddick yesterday.
Ok, the plot was quite dire but dam was it a pretty film, the level of effects was immense!

I just hate it when you end up rooting for a minor character who you know will die half way through the film (aka. The Purifier)

 | For this version anyway. The much higher profile Spielburg version is set in current day.

				 Re: OT: Movies...
I have a dream that one day someone will do a remake of Forbidden Planet. But I'd like to see them do it as an all computer generated animation with really cool CGI but use the actual soundtrack from the original. Probably have to remaster it and jazz up the some of the sound effects, but use the original actors lines for dialog and everything. I don't know why, I just think that would be cool. I wonder if you'd have to get Leslie Neilson's and the other actors permission for that, or if you'd just need the owner of the movie to agree to it.

				 Re: OT: Movies...
On the flip side, some remakes/sequels can be quite good. I personally like the new Battlestar Galactica series more than the original. But I'm probably in the minority in liking the old Starbuck more than the new one.
The problem with sequels/re-makes is that it's taking a movie/game/TV show that was popular and relying on the name to sell it rather than actual quality. It's gotten so bad that when the Stargate TV show first started I didn't watch it on principle, figuring it was relying on a combination of the Stargate name and MacGyver to sell it. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was actually good!

But in terms of over-hyped sequels, how about Half-Life 2? I just finished it (OK watched my boyfriend finish it. Same thing) and I gotta say I felt a bit cheated. The bits I played were a hell of a lot of fun but nothing was really revealed in the end. Actually nothing was revealed ANYWHERE in the game really. You play through the whole thing and in the end they tell you Sorry you'll have to wait til HL3 to find out anything about anything. Pretty cruddy in my books.
