				 Get behind The Effort (WTC)
Someone on another site called it "The Effort," and I like that moniker so much that I'm going to spread it as far as I can. The Effort is the people who are cleaning up the mess that a number of cowards created in New York City and Washington, D.C. They are rescue workers, policemen, firemen; Red Cross workers and volunteers; men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States.
They need your help. Only those few near the areas can help directly, but the rest of us can help indirectly. In many ways.

Donate blood to your local Red Cross. Call ahead first! They are swamped, but they will need blood not just today, or this week, but through September and October, likely.

Donate money to relief efforts. Amazon and Paypal are taking donations for the ARC, and the ARC is taking donations directly through its own site . If you can't spare the cash, think about donating your spare change jar. Most Coinstar machines are equipped to donate directly to the Red Cross. Even the few pennies under your couch cushions will help.

Be patient anywhere where security is tightened. Right now this includes airports and national borders. The police and security are there for your safety; let them do their jobs.

If you can do nothing else, lend moral support to The Effort. If you are the praying type, your prayers will be appreciated. If you are the baking type, your cookies and brownies will be appreciated by the military men and women deployed to the Gulf, and Saudia Arabia, and wherever else they are needed.

And get the word out anywhere you can.

Your help is vital to The Effort. Do what you can. Then do more.

Re: Get behind The Effort (WTC)
I gave blood just 3 weeks ago, so they won't accept me right now. But, as soon as I'm eligible, they'll get it. I have however, sent in my small monetary donation this morning - not 'tooting my horn', just trying to encourage others.
In the meantime, it is amazing how so many people are already giving as much as they can. In fact, my 11 year old stepson (who is BTW turning into quite a formidible SE opponent) has cashed in his $16.35 in bottles he's collected towards a new skateboard and is donating it as well. That REALLY touhes my heart....

It is just unfortunate that it takes an event like this to bring out such good in people.....

 News Release For immediate release
Shrapnel Games to Donate 5% of Sales to American Red Cross
Emergency Relief Fund to Receive Money from Sales for the Next Month.

Cary, NC, September 13, 2001

Shrapnel Games announced today that they will donate 5% of all product sales from their website to The American Red Cross Emergency Relief Fund through October 10, 2001. The money donated will be used to help with the rescue efforts and to provide assistance to the victims and their families of the recent terrorists acts in New York City and Washington, DC.

Timothy W. Brooks, President of Shrapnel Games, said, “This is a tragic time in American history. Our first thought was to shut down operations for a time, but we realized that this would mean that the terrorists had won. We believe that continuing the businesses of our country is important to showing the world that we will not be intimidated by such cowardly acts of violence. But, we wanted to do something to show our support for those who have forever been affected by this tragedy. Therefore, we will donate 5% of all our Online sales, going back to September 11th and continuing through October 10th to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Our prayers and sympathies go out to the victims and the families of those affected by this disaster.”

 Good form, man.

Re: Get behind The Effort (WTC)
Just a FYI -- while Amazon also provides a system for donating to the Red Cross, they've capped it at $100, it seems. The rather-busy ARC site (which, actually, seems to be hosted by Yahoo!) allows significantly larger contributions.

 Also,
Please verify who you are giving your money too. All the links given by Shrapnel are good ones , but if you receive emails requesting donations, watch out.

These people must be the scum of the earth to try something like this.
