OT - Incredibly Side Scrolling Shooter with Shop
I know a lot of people hanging out here enjoy the old-school gaming style (non 3D gaming).
A particular favorite game genere of mine was a 2D shooter with a shop that allows you to upgrade and customize your ship. Previously Tyrian 2000 was the best example of such a game.

However now there is
Jet's and Guns' Gold!

If you loved Tyrian 2000 and don't mind side scrolling vs top scrolling then you must check out this game.

The same guys also have a fun looking fantasy strat game, somewhat resembling Wesnoth, called "Styrateg". |

Oh, it costs money. :XWith all due respect I'm not about to spend money on a side scrolling shooter. Maybe if it was a decade or two ago... Or perhaps several years before the end of the previous century...

Interesting attitude. There is a free demo that can provide many hours of enjoyment.
I agree though. Any game that uses old technology, isn't 3D, and can run on an older computers is not worth investing in. |

Feel free to remove the thread if you think it is inappropriate. There had been other postings about games people play besides Dominions.
If you happen to like the gener of 2D shooters with a shop this is the very best one. Just like if you enjoy turn based strategy games of incredible deapth.. you've found the answer in Dominions.

I only make $75 for each sale I generate for J&G... so its not like I'm doing this for *much* personal benefit.

Re: OT - Incredibly Side Scrolling Shooter with S
An old side scroller you say? I remember side scrollers and loved them too. In fact I played Tyrian so much I was fighting in my sleep! Never recall playing Tyrian 2000. I take it, it came out in 00'. By then I was out of this style and fully into the SE series as well as a few other 4X games. But I am starting to ramble...

This is a new side scroller. The gold version just released a few months ago. But if you liked the old style games you will love this one.
There are like 60+ weapons, different ship chasis, shields, nonite repair modules, hacking devices, cooling systems, bounty hunter licenses... lots of fun stuff!

 | It has less to do with old technology and 3D than it has with complexity, fun and gameplay.

Personally, I finished Tyrian 2000, and almost finished Raptor in one sitting
Its just that when I played them originally I played them at my friend's house, and when I played them recenetly it was an abandonware version

Re: OT - Incredibly Side Scrolling Shooter with S
I understand what you are saying. And it is certainly true that this game will not get anywhere near the time of play Dominions will.
But for those people who considered Tyrian 2000 the ultimate achievement in a 2D shooter game (like I did), this is better. Even if you just play the demo its a ton of fun!

Already it has an RPG feel (money = XP) and a strategic element in how you configure your ship. Certainly levels require different weapons kits in order to be effective.
I'm hoping to see the game advance even further in this direction.
