A word of Hello & Thanks
From Reach For The Stars on the C-64 to SEIV on the P4, I've enjoyed 4X games more than any other type of game. As an old MOO I/II addict I am delighted with my recent purchase of SEIV Gold.
Just wanted to say "Hello" to the forum and offer up a big THANKS to MM and the SEIV community for making this such an enjoyable gaming experience!
I just finished reading the Dubious guide (Great Stuff!) and I am about to embark on my second game against the AI as I start vacation next week (Slavering uncontrollably ).
I look forward to getting more familiar with the game mechanics so I can try PBW, and get "glassed" by some humans. Always seeking to learn from my mistakes, (and those of others, since I can't live long enough to make them all myself) I hope to someday provide new and interesting competition to the SEIV universe!
Best Regards to all from yet another Newbie... |

Be sure to check out the TDM-Modpack. It doesn't change any game settings, it only provides new and very improved AI files. I never play the stock AI, only TDM AI's (and a few other choice custom races ) But TDM is a great place to start for a challenging AI game. |

Welcome to the community. Please feel free to ask any question. We will try to answer it. Enjoy the game. But don't play it too much. It is summer and all

Re: A word of Hello & Thanks
Thanks! I've already grabbed the TDM-Modpack and will install it Monday when I start my vacation, before I start my second game. I played the first game with the AI at medium setting, and well, it's rather lazy. After a little over 100 turns I own 3/5ths of the large map with only piddling resistance (compared to say, MOO II on Hard setting).
I mainly just wanted to learn the mechanics of the game, which I'm guessing I'm 80%+ done with. The Dubious guide was a big help, although a lot to soak up in just one reading. I'm thinking most technical questions can be answered by searching the old forum topics. It's the strategical issues I'll probably be seeking advice on.
Going to have to hit the Cantina, too! Tesco has the big mineral stockpile eh? |

StarJack: Remember that the AI in SEIV does not cheat - the different difficulty settings only represent how many of the AI ministers are turned on, unlike MOO II. |

Re: A word of Hello & Thanks
Tesco, Mac invited me to run up Your tab at the Cantina, I just figured it took lots of minerals to keep the Fluffy Bunnies from calling the, er, Fuzz?!
Cap'n Kwok, I read that in the Dubious guide, and find it just one of the many intriguing things about SEIV. The MOO series is my all time favorite. Te be honest, I bought SEIV as a 'tide me over' until MOO III is released. I've been grinning ear to ear to discover that SEIV may actually equal or surpass MOO for my all time favorite.
I never been able to play much multiplayer, as my work life schedule is very unusual. But PBW and 48 hr turns just may make it possible for me to enjoy 'human' competition for once. I still have a bit to learn about the game before trying that, but I'm looking forward to it!
Best Regards to all... |

Huh??. Surely with an AI race the ministers would all be truned on??Quote:

Re: A word of Hello & Thanks
Nope. The lower difficulty settings hinder the AI by turning some of the less-critial ministers off. Slows it down.
