				 Error message for empire files
I keep getting an error message for some of the empires that I have downloaded.
I made sure that everything is in the correct files (\pictures\races and \empires).

When I try to load one of the downloaded races (say the Trekos empire), I get an error message saying "unable to load Trekos empire" and gives the path.

Other downloaded races, I have no problems with.

What can I do to fix this problem?

I have a lot of empires in the empires and races directories, could that have something to do with it?

Does the empire file name have to correspond to the file names in the races directory...example, trekos 2k.emp trekos_ai_research.txt?

Am I missing a file somewhere?

 Thanks for any help.

 Mike

Something similar might be your problem. Race name has to be identical to directory and filename. Files for [empire] have to be located within the pictures\races\[empire]\ directory. Do not put all downloaded race files just into the races\ directory, you need them in properly named subdirectories.Quote:

 | .emp file name is arbitrary, though.

That sounds like you're trying to use an EMP that was generated under a different mod that what you're using now.
If the racialtraits.txt is different, the EMP won't work.

Re: Error message for empire files
 Thanks for the welcome!
These are the modded empires I'm having trouble with:

aquilaeian, cryslonite, cuecappa, drakol, jraenar, norak, piundon, pyrochette, rage,
shadri, trekos, ukratal, vaxin, vikings, xiati empire, xichung.

I've updated SEIV. Using Version 1.91.

All the races are in their own subdirectories within the \pictures\races subdirectory.

 Malfador emailed me back:

The usual reasons an empire file can't be loaded is because of either
incorrect Versions or modded files. The empire files need to have been
created in a Version either before or equal to the Version of SE4 that you
are running. Secondly, the empire files will fail to load if they were
created with modified data files, and then you attempt to load them into a
SE4 that does not have those data files.

Does the mod have to be newer than the 1.91 Version of SEIV?

I'm dying to play Kirk and kick Picard's ***...lol.

 Thanks for any help!!!

 This is a great game!

 Mike

Re: Error message for empire files
Your welcome. What we need to know is where did you get the ship sets and EMP files from.
I am willing to bet that the emp files you have are not compatable with STOCK seiv, or not compatable with the mod you running.

Most mods modify files before making EMP's for their races. This devalidates those EMP's for use with STOCK games.

Vis Versa with EMP's made with STOCK SE IV Will most likely not work with a modded game.

Time to make new EMP's.

Try reading this tutorial - Basic Modding 2
It may or may not give you some insight.

If you want Star Trek Ship sets and races that work in Stock SE IV click the link to the NASY (New Age Ship Yards) site in my signature.

Races that you find in the Star Trek Mod, or the AST mod will not work in stock SE IV.

Re: Error message for empire files
Some of the mods I got from www.spaceempires.net.
Some from the SEIV Gold cd. (TOD Mod)

I did get the Star Trek AST to work. Kirk and the gang used to work with SEIV Gold until I downloaded the 1.91 patch. (This is the one I really want to get working. Federation TOS or Trekos)

I downloaded files from both the websites you listed.

I removed the files in question from the SEIV directory (*.emp and the corresponding race files).

Going to try and update mod using the tutorial that you included.

Thanks for all the help. I was getting a little frustrated with the races not working.

By the way is there going to be SEV released?

Did you play Star Fury? Like it? I didn't like the demo.

Re: Error message for empire files

Many of the races you listed, are TDM races (like Aquilaeian, Drakol, Vikings, Pyrochette). Those *.emp files would work without problems only if you're using the TDM or the standard SE4.Quote:
