It'd be really easy to add that automaticly, but it seems that nicks are limited to 9 characters, so I guess it'll just have to be an away message when someone mSG's or who's you.Quote:

OTOH it would be possible to use the /nick option to add [Away] to the end of your name, but that's way too much work for most people that frequent IRC chat rooms.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to work on my patience.

It changes your nickname in the Users list.

Ahem, if that's the case, then why is their 'status' not marked as 'away'? IMHO if you're away, you should at the very least have your computer automatically list your status as 'away' (like you do fyron) I don't blame people that are 'away' for being quiet, but when there are 4-6 people NOT marked as 'away' and you (I) get no response then it's just plain rude. Don't log in if you don't have the time or interest to chat.Quote:

Going to #se4 is like sitting in a waiting room and you know how people LOVE that don't you? If people go to #se4 and used it to say, mmmm, CHAT! then it might become more popular. If new players drop by and get the silent treatment then it stands to reason that they won't return.

Placing a note at log-in that "please be patient and wait 10 mins if you get no response. Some people might not be at their computer or may be busy." HELLO! then they should set their status to say this.. 'Busy', or 'away' or 'brb' etc.

Don't get me wrong, I love #se4, but I fully understand why it's not as popular at it could/should be.

Yes, but unfortunately people who hasn't seen "Narf" before might think your usual nick is "NarfAway"Quote:

 | It's actually a pretty common thing to do.

Of course, I know you're joking (I speak : ) ), but practicing this with limited characters to the nickname could be, but then if your nick is long, everyone shortens it anyway. Too much typing takes away from clever thinking, and typing clever things.

On th subject of IRC, anyone who hasn't checked out http://www.bash.org should do so. Unless, of course, they do not find foul language and rude situations to be funny or are unable to appreciate funny things when they are found in the midst of the unfunny and downright opjectionable.

Actually there is, but it is a huge pain in the rear... most people just change their nickname. Of course, a lot of those silent people are semi-there, wandering in and out of the room or doing something fullscreen or whatever, so changing their nicks to away would not be very productive.Quote:

Further, the idling on #se4 is the same on pretty much ANY IRC channel. The difference is that we do not get many visiters (even during periods of high activity), so the idlers tend to stand out a lot more than in larger channels. If you can think of any ways to attract more people to the channel, we are open to suggestions.
