				 capturing a planet
 Hi
I am playing a large game and not doing to well at the moment, the enemy has taken a very important planet, and rather than destroy it, I want to capture it... I dont really use troops, and just tried, and I have no idea how to do this, I am using the star trek mod,

I tried loading troops in a transport then attacking the planet, getting close, but nothing happened...

I have no idea how to do this, and was wondering if someone can tell me how to attack!

 Thanks

				 Re: capturing a planet
If it's single-player, move the transport next to the planet in Tactical combat, and then pull up the options list and land troops on the planet.
If it's a game without Tactical combat, such as PBW, then the ship class for the transport needs to have a ship Strategy set to one with Drop Troops (If Carrying) as the Primary Movement orders.

If the transport is part of a fleet, the fleet should also have such orders. (There may be ways to avoid that, but I haven't tested them in a while.) However the fleet can have "Break Formation" set to True for ships.

Finally, if the planet has weapon platforms on it, they must be destroyed before the Tactical AI will try to land troops there.

The newbie FAQ also has some details on this specifically for simultaneous turn games.

It is very imprtant that both the transport ship and the actual fleet have orders to capture planets. I knew this, yet still forgot to make sure the troop ship had the orders, the result was the whole planet got glassed and my small fleet wasted fire on the planet while fighters destroyed part of it. |

Actually, the fleet can have any strategy you want, as long as it's set to break formation. My fleets set to Optimal Firing Range captured many entire systems in the RTV Dertran game on PBW. |
