Insomnia is like a turd that won't flush.  You desperately want, no need for to flush down the drain, but it just keeps hanging in there, challenging you to break out the old plunger.
"I will flush you, you brown bastard!" Oh you try but in the end, all your left with is bowl full of brown smelly turd water and a strong urge to vomit. (Bad dog! That aint drinking water!)
I am not going to skip the pill tonight in lieu of half a bottle of Yukon Jack. One way or another, I will get to sleep. (Going on 36 hours now.)

I have stayed up 36 hours playing SEIV before. Its chronicled in my short story "How SEIV Ruined My life." - Hense the warning lable that GParker wrote for me and all fans of SEIV.

I find that if I simply lie in one place and not move at all, eventually I will fall asleep.
I've never been awake for 36 hours, either, though.
