Multiple tech levels from one ship?
Is it possible to get more than one level of a tech from a single analyzed ships if there is more than one component that is two or more levels higher than the level you have? For example, if you have point defense level 2 and you analyze a ship with 3 level-5 PD cannons, will your point defense tech go up by 3 levels or just one?

Re: Multiple tech levels from one ship?
In your example, you would gain 3 levels in PDC. You had it right; for every component more advanced than your current levels, you gain a tech level (upto the max tech level of the components you are analizing). |

Really? I didn't think that was true. Seems like it was just +1 per ship, unless you had multiple types of component (or hull size) that required the same tech area. |

100% positive that you get 1 level per ship, not 1 level per component.

You get +1 level for each unique component.
 EG:
analysing 3 PD cannon V's will get you +1 level in point defense.

Analysing a Cargo bay 3, and a supply tank 3, will get you +2 levels in cargo.

Analysing a medium carrier with Fighter bay 3's will get you +2 levels in fighters.

Did a quick test...seems that SJ is right! Been playing this game for over half a year and I'm still learning.

That's pretty much exactly what SJ said when he mentioned "medium carrier with Fighter Bay 3's" giving you 2 tech levels.Quote:

Of course, analyzing a light carrier and Fighter Bay 1's (both Fighter level 1 techs) probably shouldn't give you Fighters level 1 & 2; if they do, you might want to notify Aaron...

BTW - if you analyze a ship with a cloaking device, you can get tech levels in cloaking, even if you haven't researched Physics 3 (or whatever the applied science for unlocking the cloaking tech is). Same for other techs with prerequisites; you can't perform further research on your own until you research the prerequisite, though. IIRC, that was the basis of SJ's trick to make racial techs analyzable in one of his mods...

Re: Multiple tech levels from one ship?

One thing I've noticed is that it may work differently for trading tech's. Once I took over an AI and tried to give them shields and energy weapons ... and the couldn't understnd them without physics IQuote:
