If the unmodded AI beats you - well - keep on trying. Try to find counter weapons to their attacks. Read as much of this forum as you can because almost in any thread there are at least some advice or suggestions or observations but first of all - read the newbie guides. After that when you will start becomming MEE after let's say 20-30 turns, try playing with TDM or DevNull Mod AIs.

http://www.seiv.pbw.cc and try searching for a newbie game. Soon we're starting a game called LastHope5. This is SEIVGold game humans against unmodded AIs. Just what you're looking for. The game is just for trying some new ideas and/or racial techs and/or whatever interesting you can think of. There are already 3 players in and they are a bit experienced so if you'd need help on something - just use the diplomacy or the game's forum.
This applies to everybody. Come & join the game. If htere will be more than 10 players - just tell me
