Need help - Game slow and freezes

Starting yesterday, when I try to start SEIV 1.91, it sometimes "hangs up" at 4% loaded. If it loads the game, everything is very slow.

I tried rebooting, and it seems to help for a turn or two, but the slowness continues. I completed a turn, but the game froze during the "end turn" commmand.

I reloaded the game, but that didn't help. I also tried starting a 1.84 game that is in another folder, but with the same results. I am running Norton Anti-virus and Zone Alarm to stop viruses and spyware. Both scans came up with no problems.

I have turns on two PBW games due tomorrow and no way to complete them. Does anyone have a suggestion?
