Re: #se4 on Gamesurge IRC
The Last time I installed an IRC client (mIRC!) I got hacked/stacked/cracked/and otherwise forced to format my hard drive. I'll not try that again. The java chat applet is working well for me, so I'll stick with that for now.
Thanks for meaning well though!
Cheers!

Re: #se4 on Gamesurge IRC
Don't go on Warez channels then David. Don't go on bad networks. Get a firewall. That sort of thing almost never happens, and will not happen just because you have an IRC client installed.

Re: #se4 on Gamesurge IRC
{ Zone Alarm } has a very user-friendly freeware Version of their firewall out. I've used it with no problems. I've also been told that there's a good freeware firewall at this site:
http://sygate.com/
but I haven't tried it, so you might use a bit of caution there.

Re: #se4 on Gamesurge IRC
I didn't go to warez sites, I'm not into that sort of thing. and It's been many years since I tried mIRC, I believe it was just released and everybody was raving about it. I got hit, hard. I'm sure that the different IRC clients are much better and secure now, but I'm still very weary.
Like I said, the java app is working for me, and I'll stick with it for now.
Cheers!

You probably just got unlucky and hit that one in a trillion (or even more) chance.

Re: #se4 on Gamesurge IRC
I think I should bump this thread up from the mirky depths at this time.

It got mirky again. Time for de-mirkyification.
