yes, you can put Space Yard - Base II on a 500kt Space Station. You just need to research Base Construction 2.

Keep in mind that the components that can be used on Cruisers are different form the ones used on bases. While Space Yard - Ship II has 1500 construction, Space Yard - Base II has 2000. Space Yards that are used for bases also have a higher repair rate.

PS: maybe a name change for the Space Yard - Ship component would be in order to remove some of the confusion. Mobile Space Yard, perhaps?

That would help. Probably some people didn't even notice they were separate components since they only see the appropriate one in the design screen for the type they are making.
