Hehe, I used to work in a top secret building, the kind with no windows and fully (mostly) contained with eating facilities, first aid, etc. Worked a 12-on 12-off shift (6 to 6). During the winter, I'd go days without seeing the sunlight. These days, I have a window by my cubicle...
[Edit - just noticed this was my 911 post...I'm a bit superstitious, too]

Re: God How I Hate Day Light
I too worked the 12 hour shifts 6 to 6 Days and Nights for over 7 years. I liked the Night shift the best as we were left alone to do our work and mook around.
Day shift had its advantages as well. The day ship Supervisor would order things using my name and when the order came in, take it home. This went on for god only knows how long before I ended up in the Managers office. Of course by this time he had stolen my work, taken credit my ideas, and weasled himself into a managers job. Believe me when I say that revenge is a dish best served cold.
This is funny in a sad sorta way.
I once wrote an excel spread sheet to figure lifetime for our process. It was a simple enough thing to do, and I enjoyed doing it. It took me just over an hour to write it and test it. Sure enough it worked perfectly. I could not believe that someone else had not thought of this before then as it saved about our process an average of four hours od down time a day. Before we had to manually calculate the averages and such and that always lead to errors and shut downs. Afterwards all a person had to do was enter the data and preso it was all figured for them.
I had not submitted the project to managment before going on vacation and upon returning I was told that the day shift supervisor had been given special compensation for developing this brillant time saving tool. Yup you guessed it, the ****er stoled my project. He changed the appearance of the spread sheet a tad and submitted it as his own.
That little bit of theft ultimately got him a managers job. A job that I too had applied for.
Six months later I ran into his boss, a building manager, at a meeting and the subject drifted onto why he had not chosen me for the Manager position. He told me that he was turned off by the fact that I attempted to take credit for someones elses efforts. Namely the excel spread sheet program. After the meeting I took him to my office and showed him all the information that I had and how my idea was stolen. he was not happy. Just over a week later they let the former day shift supervisor go. I like to think it was because of me, but I know it wasn't. A guy like that is what he is, and ultimately is to blame for their own downfalls.
It took me a while, but in the end I did get my revenge and I took great satisfaction in knowning that I had contributed to his demise. Am I a bad person for taking satisfaction from this, hell ya, but you won't hear me ever apologize for it.

Re: God How I Hate Day Light

I don't think that taking satisfaction in justice makes you a bad person.
I had a boss that was good at 'politics'. I had been working at the company for 6 years. I had written all of the accounting software which included a job costing package.
Another company bought us and merged the two companies together. This yahoo was put in charge of me. I swear, I tried to get along.
He kept taking credit for my work and such.
Then they bought an off shelf accounting package to replace the software I had written. This is not evil in and of itself, but frankly the software did not meet our needs.
A year later in a staff meeting, I was asked for a status report & told the president that this software would never do what the production managers wanted. He said "Didn't the salesmen tell you it would?"
Oh how sweet.
I replied, "I was never allowed to talk to the salesman!"
My boss had let the president believe that I had recommended the software. If it failed, it was my fault. If it succeeded, he could just correct to the truth that he had picked it out without consulting me.
Sneaky bastard!
A month after I left their employment, he had a heart attack and had to undergo surgery. I take no pleasure in that, but I do take pleasure in the things that came out when I was called in as a consultant to work with the CPA they used as a temporary fill in.
What goes around comes around.

I can relate to that.
I started my computer carrer selling them on commision. I had lined up a 20 plus system sale. Gave my paper work to a trusted colluege, let my customer know what what was up and went on vacation.
I came back to find another sales man took the phone call when it came in. Took over the sale saying it was a "corporate sale" and I was "retail". Ouch, that cost me over 1000 dollars take home.
The "retail" sales staff had to handle incoming phone calls. Mr A** stopped getting his Messages. After a few weeks customers started to complain to managment. The "Messages" were found crumpled up in said A** waste basket and under his desk which he was too sloppy to empty or clean......
I remember making eye contact as he was walked out of the store.....

"Aiie! It burnsss! The day-moon, it blindsesss usss! It sssearsss our flesssh!"
I feel ya', I feel ya' man. Why do you think I chose this name?
I don't think I've been awake while the day-moon was up for more than an hour since I quit my day job a week ago. Yep, go to sleep at 0700 and wake up at 1700, that's the life of a vacationing nocturnal creature.
